This is one of those product that, in 2024, you wonder if it has a place when the modern Smartphone will do everything that this will (and in the case of things such as playing music, will do it so much better).I suppose that if you are going to offer up a product against such competition you had better make sure that it at least equals its Smartphone competition in its key function.So, how does this little Voice recorder compete? Surprisingly well, as it happens.Putting aside what I think are gimmicks (the ability to store and play music being the most notable) this voice recorder is very small, very discrete and is supplied with a charging / data cable, a pair of generic headphones (unfortunately without an inline remote) and a material storage bag. It also comes supplied with a pre-formatted and installed (but removeable) 64GB memory card.It has a small, but legible LCD screen and various buttons for controlling various functions. It has dual mics and you can see a visual recording level for each on the LCD screen.The quality of recording is actually rather good although there is an audible *click* at the beginning of, and end of, each track. This may be deliberate to help with timing and editing, I know that Giorgio Moroder knew that he needed a click too...I was surprised at just how clear the voice recordings it made were and how good the onboard speaker. I found it easy to use and have yet to refer to the manual. Be aware, thought, that the sensitivity of the onboard mics does tail off somewhat and if the recorder is going to sit any distance from the source in a noisy environment you may need to consider an external mic.Apparently this can be set to voice activation, I have yet to use this but given the size of the recorder this is surely open to abuse.In all, when it comes down to it, voice wise this little recorded stands up to its Smartphone competition very well.Given that this costs £24.99 and my phone was £1,300+ this little recorder absolutely smashes it out of the park price wise.
