Light, inexpensive and convenient
When I got into metal detecting, I decided to spend as little cash as possible. It was never meant to be a paying hobby, I just wanted to occasionally drag a detector out to the beach or the woods and find cool old junk. Because of this, I bought a Bounty Hunter Tracker (a tremendous bang-for-the-buck detector) and this scoop.I don't often get a chance to go detecting so this scoop hasn't had much use, but the last time I took it to the beach I found an old pistol shell casing, a handful of metal trinkets, and of course a lot of junk. This makes sifting easy-- find a spot where the detector signals, scoop the sand out, shake, repeat. It's no match for wet sand or compact dirt, but for me that's OK. I have a small hand spade for dirt and wet sand. Just shovel the dirt or sand into this scoop and shake.I like the fact that this scoop is plastic. It won't rust, rinses clean very easily, and won't cause the metal detector to trigger if you accidentally leave it to close to the target area. It weighs practically nothing-- this scoop, a hand trowel, a bottle of water and sunscreen all fit in a small sling bag or pack and are light enough to carry all day-- or until you get bored of finding bottle caps.Maybe someday I'll find a gold ring or diamond back-scratcher, but for now I just like going out and digging up forgotten relics. Detecting in dry sand is pretty easy and this scoop makes it even easier.

Find your buried treasure faster!
I am new to detecting, and have been hitting the beach looking for treasure! After a few times out using a small garden shovel, I quickly realized spending 5 minutes chasing after a penny wasn't working for me; it was time to get a scoop. I didn't want to spend a lot of money on a scoop, so I gave this one a shot. After my first time out with it, I am very satisfied! It has a nice sturdy feel, light weight, and easily sifts the sand. Searching the beach was much more fun when I could find my target on the first scoop! This is going to be great when I go out with my young kids who like to dig out whatever we find. When digging in wet sand the handle has a bit of flex, so I just pushed the body of the scoop into the sand and picked it up from the main part of the scoop with no issue. I would order this scoop again in a heartbeat.Pros:- Inexpensive but well made- Lots of holes for quick sifting- The light weight plastic is easy to carry, and wont interfere with your metal detector- Hollow handle has a cap closing it off on the inside to keep sand from filling it when scooping- SAVES TIME!Cons:- The handle will flex when the scoop is filled with wet sand

Not retired.....yet
This is a nice little shaker compared to my hand made tools or other tools I have purchased. It is small and it sounds kind of strange but is kind of soft andnice to work and with it being plastic it is not sharp and handles well....certainly it makes no sense at all to most, but I like the tool a lot more than the others I have played with. Note--Not to knock going to the shops where they do really know there products and what they are selling but boy you can find some better "deals" if you will shop and look around, beyond a sand scoop. I have bought a few of these before (I guess spares now)....and spent much more money, but look at all your options before you buy. Not to be cheap, because I am, but hook this to a broomstick and a hoseclamp and I can use this with my other underwater equipment in the surf or lake and not buy the $120.00 unit at the shop. Does the same thing I suppose and I can remove the stick and use it anywhere I want. land or water. I suppose you remove some "cool" look from the big treasure find then but at least I think would recover, I hope.Gads getting corny now, nice tool in your hand, sift hole size is right and I think you could use it for many applications if you are creative, possibly beyond treasures even. Shop around, lots of cool stuff, know what you want and find it. This is a nice unit though and I am glad I purchased it, it works the best of all I have found.....so far.Marc Rickert

Great sand scoop for the price
Purchased to do some detecting at the beach. I only go once a year so I wasn't looking to break the bank. As others have stated, I may not trust the handle in the surf. I supported the scoop by holding it at the bottom in the surf and not really using the handle to be safe. It worked extremely well and we used to get shells where the waves were breaking. For the price you can't go wrong on this one.

Light weight and good for dry sand metal detector hunting but not much beyond that.
I got this plastic scoop when I first started metal detecting at the beach.Since it was cheap and I didn't want to spend too much, I decided to try it out.It is light and worked fine for the dry sand at my beach but not so much for wet sand and dirt.I eventually paid more and got a metal scoop.Likes:Its lightweight and somewhat durable for light sifting. Its a step up from those children's scoops as far as durablilty.Dislikes:Works fine for dry sand but not so much for wet sand or dirt.Good for starting out if your only doing the top dry sand at the beach. Anything else is going to need a metal scoop.

Loved it for shell searching at the beach!
Purchased this item before a weeklong beach vacation. We love to search for shells in the water, but tend to find that beach nets aren't strong enough to cut into the wet sand and lift anything out that's more than an inch or two under the surface. That is not the case with this item. The plastic is very strong and it held up well. Digging deep into the wet sand under the gulf did not compromise the integrity of the item. This served its purpose very well. Probably the only thing I wasn't 100% crazy about was the size of the holes. They aren't really large, per se, but depending on what you're sifting or scooping, one might consider them to be large. I'd like the option to purchase in various sizes as far as the holes are concerned.
