I'm in the process of re-decking my boat. After I completed the bow, I found that the hatch would annoyingly close on me as I was trying to work on my battery or take my anchor/rope from the bow storage area. I ordered this set of small gas struts to keep the hatch open when I needed it to be that way. The hatch cover is not heavy and I was not looking for a soft open/close operation so I went with the smallest size available (6”). I knew ahead of time that these struts did not come with the brackets. You should, too. You should also be aware that there are no instructions. YouTube has some good videos for guidance. I finally got a few spare minutes and figured out appropriate clearances and mount locations (you can see several trial and error holes in my photos). I only used one strut since that was all that was needed. Once I had the strut properly mounted I found that it keeps the hatch open while I'm working and it doesn't require any significant effort to shut the hatch. Further, the placement I chose keeps the hatch completely closed without needing a separate latch. Win for me. I'm sure I will end up using the second strut on another hatch on my main deck when I get around to that next winter. Even with no brackets, $12 for two struts is super cheap. Four stars for not including brackets or any instructions.
