Grab one while you can
My original (black) Lamy Twin is 20+ years old now, in great shape and works beautifully. I decided to treat myself to a dressier version while they’re still available. I got the brushed silver first and was very disappointed. #1- NO ERASER!? What the heck? #2- the brushed barrel felt”off”, off balance and too grippy. I returned it and ordered the stainless steel version since the top looked similar to the black eraser top. Bingo! It is exactly the same; function, weight, balance and quality. And unlike the brushed version which came in a flimsy black paper sleeve, the stainless steel came in a beautiful gift box. I may have to get another black one to stock up before they’re gone forever.

Really a great product!
This Pen/Pencil is fantastic! The weight, the way the mechanisms function, and the overall feel exceeded my expectations. Unfortunately LAMY has discontinued this particular product, which is a shame considering they don't have a another comparable "twin" currently in the line-up. One caveat is getting the mechanism open the first time to change the lead, the pressure you have to put really makes it feel as though you will break it. Once open for the first time, however, it becomes very easy to open subsequently. Great product!Update 3/29/17- After close to 2 full years, I can report that it is working perfectly. Even the finish has developed a nice "patina". Quality is certainly there with this twin. One tip, do not put more than 2 leads in the pencil mechanism at a time, for some reason the pencil will misbehave with more than that. Minus that little caveat, I can still highly recommended.

Beautifully Designed Pen/Pencil
The pen arrived in perfect condition. Shipped to the U.S. with international shipping and arrived earlier than expected. Love the options of having a pen or pencil. It has a nice weight to it. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a well designed pen/pencil combo.

I long for that Lamy Quality
Lamy equated for quality. Those precision crafted barrels, crisp mechanical movements, the "click" noise when you extended the pencil, all just displayed craftsmanship. Compared to Rotring or Steadtler, it was my go to choice when I was in high school and engineering college. I still get sad when I remember my original Twin Ballpoint pen that was stolen. The memories of having "that" Lamy pen still lingered when I decided to buy this one.The design is slightly changed, the original pen I had, had a red ring on the barrel, compared to the all black persona this one wears. Otherwise it still remains a pure Lamy. Almost bringing back that nostalgia. So why one star less? It's the quality I expect from Lamy. My pen after two years of ownership has started to show some wear. For one, there is some visible loss of paint near the tip and on the eraser cover. Secondly, the while twisting, the pen does not travel all the way, there's a spot in the action where I have to give a little more effort to turn. Finally, the pencil's mechanical action has become sticky. So after I click it - it doesn't retract all the way, once I put the pencil on the paper to write, the action retracts, making a little jerk action. It can become annoying. I was more abusive to the previous pen (what can you expect from a student?) than this one, yet the old one held to that abuse remarkably well. For clarification, even though expensive, I use Lamy's refills.

Great instrument
This combination pen/pencil is very well made and has a good feel in the hand. The pencil is 0.5 mm and the pen has black ink. The replacement ink cartidges are also available in blue (my fav). The style is similar to a Lamy mech pencil that I purchased 8 years ago and is still working fine. The warranty on Lamy pens/pencils if lifetime - ship to NJ with a check for $7 and the repaired item is returned several days later in perfect working order. I currently have six (6) Lamy writing instruments.

Mechanism to hold pencil lead will stop working - DON'T BUY!
This was a present for my son who was very excited about this particular type of pen. Being German, I grew up with Lamy products and felt the price is justified for a quality pen with such function sold by a reputable manufacturer. Unfortunately, after a few weeks of use the pencil lead was no longer held in place by the mechanism. We are very disappointed with the product. I learned about it too late and won't be able to request refund anymore. SadIy, I now also lost my trust in Lamy products.
