Pulse of Perseverance: Three Black Doctors on Their Journey to Success

Give thanks. I found Joseph Semien Jr. MD, Peirre Johnson MD and Maxime Madhere MD by accident on Instagram. I was blown away at seeing three FYNE!!!! Black doctors, mentoring, being active in their community and loving husbands and fathers to less fortunate black males in the community. As I started to follow them in IG, they were promoting their book, Pulse Of Perseverance. I purchased the book, finished the entire book in a few days and several flights and decided to pass the book along to my eldest son. If you have not purchased this book and follow these gentleman on social media, you are missing out. I commend ALL of them for their hard work and the love and support they have for each other and their determination to build black leaders. Keep up the good work.NDSV2008

This book is ABSOLUTELY amazing! I love the transparency in their stories. Their stories drew me in with every page and I couldn't put this book down! I felt so proud and empowered by the end of this story. WOW, if anyone thinks that the world has dealt them a difficult hand and there's no way out, please have them read this story of perseverance, overcoming, the strength of a supportive community, and ultimate success!

I read Pulse of Perseverance in three days. I couldn't put it down. Pierre, Joe, & Max each had their challenges both academically and personally. But they didn't let that stop them from achieving their goals. Knowing that Pierre, Max, and Joe reached the top of their profession motivates to keep pursuing my goals in the medical field. Excellent book. I will let everyone I know about Pulse of Perseverance. Great work Drs. Johnson, Semien, & Madhere.

This book was an excellent read! I originally purchased the book to support one of the authors, who is my nephews Godfather. Once I started reading, I couldn't put it down. Someone please contact Oprah's Bookclub. Pulse of Perseverance is a very genuine passionate book about the lives of three Doctors, and their journey from childhood to the present. Parts of the book are like a history lesson and I kept saying to myself, Wow, I did not know that. I loved reading Pulse of Perserverance.

My teenager and I read this book together. As a single parent I found the text within to be a God send. There are lessons that I give my son daily and at times wonder if he is "picking up what I am putting down" or if he is just so nonchalant with my guidance because maybe my words appear to be coming from a dinosaur, but to hear the training lessons about life and the challenges that he may face spoken by someone else in a more appealing way to a teenager certainly helped us to connect the dots on a deeper level. Reading the book allowed him to take a very candid peek into the writer's youth and young adult lives to find similarities with today's teens/young adult's life that set the stage for discussions between us. Even I, at nearly 50 years old, gained unexpected inspiration to continue to run towards my goals as my son read aloud. There is something within these covers for everyone!

I enjoyed the total book as it outlined how each of them learn to overcome barriers and obstacles in their life to achieve their life's desire. It is a testimony of three African American men who understood what it took to prevent the system from destroying their dreams. HBCU's have played such a significant role in the lives of many of our successful African American.

This book is amazing and very inspirational!!! Myself, being a single black woman, mother of 3, and full time worker in the health field can relate to the many trials and tribulations it took to get to the road of success!!! This book helped me to see the things that I have been through and am going through from a different perspective. In fact from a more positive one!!!The authors are truly amazing and are living proof that with God, hard work, dedication, and support, you can accomplish and have the victory over anything that comes across your path!

I love how each story starts at almost as far back as the authors can remember and takes you through various events that helped to mold them into the individuals that they are today. The book was very well put together. I didn't experience any "dry spots" or areas where the stories seemed to be drawn out. The authors were definitely able to build a close rapport with me as towards the end of each story, I genuinely felt good for them. Very good read and highly recommended!

Great book.Inspirational.I lived in similar circumstances.I believe this book will inspire many.I recommend it for young people.

Inspiring. Youngster need read this. Honest account on defying the odds stacked against you on basis of colour not ability

Highlights the importance of diversity in the field of medicine and young black children seeing that they can achieve anything they put their minds to.
