First Edition 1919
So, I’m a bibliophile. Perhaps more of a bibliolater. I am also reader of the poet Carl Sandburg, and the history of racism in the United States among many other subjects. The two subjects overlap in a text documenting the Chicago race riots of 1919 by Carl Sandburg. While doing some research I ran across a vendor description of a book on Amazon of all places. Most of the Chicago Race Riot July 1919 titles are later editions and reprints. Because the date is in the title it is difficult to identify the specific 1919 edition. But the vendors description led me to believe this was at least a very early copy. I bought it and then inquired further, the vendor relayed that they didn’t have any specific information regarding the book. I received the book today, and it’s a first edition! A library book from the Minneapolis Atheneum. The book is so delicate. I’m so impacted by the social and historical value this text has. Especially now, as our history is reimagined and books are banned. This 1919 book finds itself in a future that still fails to address the crimes of an inherently racist society and remains a relevant declaration of injustice and call to revolutionary change.

Riveting Articles on the Origin of Chicago Race Riots
This is a remarkable account of race relations in the early 20th century written by an eloquent newspaperman, Carl Sandburg. It is based on detailed research, statistics, interviews, and stories about and by individuals. It is very topical today, one hundred years later, in 2019.

The Chicago Race Riots
The history of negro suppression in America is made very persona l by Sandburg and explains the period incredibly well. He also demonstrates which industries were supportive of the negro at that time and surprisingly there were quite a few. I loved it!

Dover Publication is Awesome!
Learned quite a bit about this area regarding race. Dover inexpensive but really reliable.

Chicago
Interesting articles from a long time ago. Chicago didn't change much from the late teens to late fifties. The real estate firms were the main problem.
