France released, NTSC/Region 0 DVD: LANGUAGES: English ( Dolby Digital Stereo ), French ( Dolby Digital Stereo ), Spanish ( Dolby Digital Stereo ), SPECIAL FEATURES: Interactive Menu, Scene Access, SYNOPSIS: THE DALÍ DIMENSION retraces Salvador Dalí's obsession for science, which lasted his entire life. This can be seen in his paintings, which reflect every major discovery of the 20th Century. Even his signature is directly influenced by a scientific image. Dalí read scientific literature compulsively, from psychoanalysis to quantum mechanics, and mathematics to genetics. Moreover, he strove all his life to meet relevant scientists: Sigmund Freud, James D. Watson (co-discoverer of the structure of DNA, Nobel prize 1962), Ilya Prigogine (Nobel prize chemistry 1977), Severo Ochoa (Nobel prize physiology 1959). He befriended researchers in physics, mathematics, biology and other disciplines. Scientists were surprised to discover that beyond the façade of a clownish showman was a brilliant artist with whom they could have meaningful discussions at the crossroads of art and science. The film features interviews with Dalí in which he speaks about his passion for science together with previously unseen footage of Dalí with scientists. James D. Watson, Ilya Prigogine and other researchers give their personal accounts of their relationship with the painter. Art historians Dawn Ades (University of Essex, curator of the retrospective on Dalí opening on September 12 at the Palazzo Grassi in Venice, Italy) and Gavin Parkinson (Oxford University) highlight the scientific influences that can be found in a selection of works by Dalí.
