Severe Lack of Chi
Street Fighter related products tend to be a hit or miss prospect leaning towards misses. Among the misfires include Street Fighter Alpha - the Movie, the horrendous Saturday morning Street Fighter cartoon and the tragic live action movie. Other products like SF Alpha - Generations have gotten reviews so bad that I won't even touch them. On the other side are the games and the shining star, Street Fighter II - the movie. So where does the manga lie? Probably somewhere in between. The art for Alpha is quite good but the story is extremely shallow in fact almost nothing happens. I was hoping for two things from this book, some great fights and more backstory on the characters from the games. Quite honestly I got neither. The story revolves around Ryu and his struggle to avoid being taken over by the Dark Hadou. This is similar to the plot of Street Fighter Alpha - The Movie. There are only a few fights in the book including a butt stomping delivered by Ken to the pathetic Dan. There are appearances by Chun-Li, Birdie, Adon, Guy, Sodom, Charlie and Rose but most are non-fighting cameos. These appearances are brief and seem to hint that more will be expanded upon in the next book which makes me wonder how it's all going to be wrapped up in the book 2 finale. The core of Street Fighter is the fighting which is why SF II - the Movie rocked and Alpha - the Movie did not. The Alpha book is likewise devoid of great fights. Ryu fights Ken but you know it won't go anywhere. Sodom fights but he's a rather low level character in the SF universe. Adon wants revenge on Ryu for defeating his master Sagat but never really does anything about it.As if having a dearth of action weren't bad enough there is a lengthy section of the book devoted to a non-SF story that I couldn't care less about. Of the various Street Fighter manga I have read Alpha is the weakest. My suggestion would be to pick up Street Fighter the New Challengers released in the last year or so. Alpha is for true Street Fighter fans but don't get your hopes up too high.

For real fans.
This is the only Street Fighter book I've ever read. It was pretty good. Because I am into the video game series and also the animated shows and movies. So to me I have an understanding of the characters and storyline. You can appreciate it much better if you have a Street Fighter background. The writing is pretty funny at times as well. Not a bad book.

One of the best Street Fighter books
I recently received this book, and i must say it's really great.Although it's not 100% accurate on the official storyline(but none of the comics/mangas are anyway), it's still following it as much as possible while keeping the fun.The drawings are pretty good, and the story is nice. The way it develops is also pretty good.I think this is one of the best street fighter comic/manga book available, so what are you waiting for ?
