Hugger Muggerpara Rubber Mat

Perfect option for me!
I absolutely love this mat! I had been doing yoga for about two years on my "beginners" mat and was having real issues with my hands getting sweaty and sliding. I finally decided it was time to invest in a better mat and talked with my yoga teacher. She let me try several mats at the studio to see how they worked. While they were better, I still found myself slipping a bit even on those. She then recommended I try her mat and I fell in love . She used this mat and I can see why. It's heavy so it doesn't slide around on the floor, it's cushioned so my knees are happy, and (best of all) I can do poses with sweaty palms without sliding. The only drawback at all is the mat is sticky enough that when swinging my leg to the front of the mat while in any downward position, I absolutely have to lift it - any dragging of the leg and the mat causes resistance. It actually encourages better yoga, but some days I'm not capable of a clean movement and have to come down on a knee and then swing the other leg forward. It did have a rubbery odor for the first few times I used it but that has totally gone away now and I am 100% pleased.I was taking a class from the owner of the yoga studio a couple of weeks ago and she did a double take when she was working with me -- looked at what type it was and made the comment that it is a really excellent mat.

Perfect Mat for Home or Studio!
I searched for a new mat for weeks. I had been using the same mat for ten years and decided to upgrade. I knew I wanted a rubber mat. My final decision was between this mat, the Manduka Pro, and a Jade mat. I decided on this mat for the price and the sustainable production. With the price of this mat, I was able to purchase a Hugger Mugger Tapas Travel mat, as well. I love it so far! It does smell a bit like natural rubber when it arrives. Just give it time to air out. Within a couple of weeks the smell was gone. To me, the temporary smell is worthwhile for a sustainably produced mat. I use it at home and take it to class once a week.

Ultimately returned, but great mat!
I think this is a fantastic product, even though I returned it. It seemed high quality, had great grip, and was stable even though it was nice and cushy. The only reason I returned it was for personal preference - being a very tactile person, I found a different mat which simply felt better on my hands (the texture). This may was very smooth and nice, but not what felt good to me.Otherwise, it was fantastic and if I was planning to keep two, I would have kept this one as well!

heavy, durable, sticky - awesome mat
LOVE this mat! I started doing handstands and backbends this year & needed a sticky mat, this really does the trick! It is very heavy to carry around but it is nice and durable and squishy but firm. AWESOME mat, worth the $$ I would buy another one!

FAVORITE YOGA MAT EVER!!
After a lot of research for a new yoga mat, I went with the Hugger Mugger and I absolutely love it! I was looking for a mat that I wouldn’t slip on, and the firm yet cushiony feel of this mat is perfect! Would definitely recommend!!Several people mentioned the rubber smell, and there is one-bit I haven’t found it to be overpowering at all. It is also going away…and I have also used a yoga mat cleaner with essential oils, which I think helps.

Grip + Stability + Cushion // Awful, persistent smell and a little heavy
Pros: it has perfect grip for hands and feet to really get the most out of your poses and also sticks well to the floor (important for jumping from plank to the front of your mat). It also has perfect combination of cushion and stability. I was sticking balance poses like never before and didn't get that achey feeling in my feet when in balance poses for a while. Also, comparing this one to all the other top of the line mats (I've tried Manduka, Jade, and higher-bracket Gaiams), you can tell that it's made to last a long time (no shiny/glossy surface to come apart bit by bit from the friction of frequent use, and the surface is made to withstand any puncture or scrape marks from tossing it around in transit or storage). I'm a frequent yoga practitioner of over 15 years, and now I practice 5 days/week in a variety of yoga classes, from advanced to hot to restorative, and I am extremely picky about mats - I don't want to break the bank, but I will invest in a mat that enhances my practice and will last. This mat is more affordable than others, and it's got the certified Eco-stamp as well. Also, this one is a porous but closed-cell mat, so cleaning and maintenance is easier than with more fabric-like mats such as the Jade or Manduka Eko mats.Cons: 1) the weight - 6.5 lbs. may not seem like a lot, but I ride a bike and tote my mat in a shoulder sling, so it does sit a little heavy on my back, but other mats at this performance level actually weigh a lot more (hello, Manduka Black Mat Pro at 10lbs!!!); and 2) the smell - I honestly never cared about mat smell despite reading many reviews about it with other mats, but it was truly awful with this one when I brought it to class the first time. It was so strong, I could smell it a few feet away so I felt paranoid that others near me would be bothered by it. Also, after practicing that first time, my hands and feet smelled awful and when I touched my lips after class, I could taste the awful smell. Since that first use, I wiped it down lightly with my own personal spray, a vinegar-peppermint oil-water spray, after practice and several times between use, and I let it air dry completely each time, but still it's not gone, not even remotely. I still have to wash my hands and feet immediately after practice (or better yet take a full-on shower since you lay all over it, the smell/residue gets everywhere).

Quality mat with cushioning
Very, very nice yoga mat. Great thickness to provide some padding, especially to knees during yoga poses, but rolls up nicely. Highly recommended.

The smell is absolutely horrible and it's not as sticky as they make it sound
I was soooo disappointed with this yoga mat. After trying all kinds of different things as suggested by the seller (inc wiping it with white vinegar, etc) I could not get rid of the smell. It was so awful I felt super sick - headache/nausea - during practice and didn't recover for hours. And I was slipping and sliding all over it each time I tried to use it. Good thing I had my old (tried, tested a true) Lulu mat on stanby... Really unfortunate to have had this experience. I had high hopes for this mat but ended up with no other option than to return it - AFTER THE SELLER STOPPED REPLYING with more suggestions on how to make the mat work for me.

Best Yoga Mat Ever
Besides the heavy weight and smell (which goes away), this is the best yoga mat I have ever had! Awesome grip and cushion (I have injured my knee and this mat helps me). I strongly recommend this yoga mat! (Ps the colour is gorgeous! So calming)

Good quality
It's quite heavy, but I love the material because it's slip proof. It's also really pretty.

Five Stars
Je l'adore. Beaucoup de grip même avec des blocs de yoga. J'aime plutôt l'odeur du caoutchouc. Bonne densité.
