Hi Devin, so long as your DRT2040 is setup with vented or louvered upper and lower panels, the FBK-200 kit should work.  You'll also need a wall switch that controls the blower's electrical outlet, since the FBK-200's rheostat is designed to replace that switch. Will this unit fit a sc42 majestic 42" circulating fireplace?

The FBK-200 is really designed for Lennox and Superior fireplaces, so it's not the kit that I would recommend.  For the SC42, we typically recommend the FK12 or GFK4.  The FK12 is a manual blower, which means you'll need a designated wall switch to turn the blower on and off.  If you don't have a wall switch dedicated to the blower, then the GFK4 is the way to go.  The GFK4 includes a thermostat that will automatically turn the blower on and off for you.  Hope this helps!  Regards, Jason

My current switch is just for on/off of the fireplace. will the new switch completely replace it?  will i be able to turn on the fire withouttheblower

If you only have a single switch to turn the fireplace on, you'll need the FBK-250 kit.  The FBK-200 is only used when you have a dedicated wall switch for the blower (not the one that turns the fireplace on/off).  It would control the electrical outlet below the fireplace that's used for the blower.  If you have that dedicated blower switch, then the speed controller included with the FBK-200 replaces that switch.  The fireplace on/off switch will remain intact.  Hopefully that helps!  But again, if you just have a single switch that turns the fireplace on/off, you'll need the FBK-250 kit, which uses a thermostat sensor to automatically turn the blower on and off as the fireplace heats up and cools down. Could this fan put out a strong noxious fume after initial install? have embers that have used before, with no odor, but this is really toxic smelling

From my experience, the fan puts out no odors other than those already in the area surrounding it. If your fireplace fire box has a broken weld or a hole this unit will blow any fumes that leak outside the fire box into your room. If you run the fan when there is no fire, and it still produces an odor, then I would contact the seller and get a replacement.
