The Return of Tarzan

Mystery, Suspense, Adventure and Romance, The Return of Tarzan has it all!
The Return of Tarzan by Edgar Rice Burroughs is one of my all-time favorite books by one of my favorite authors. The five book Tarzan series is one of my favorite series that are now considered classics. As with any series I recommend that the books be read in the order in which they were written but like with every well-written series, they can be read and enjoy in any order. The Tarzan Series has been in my library for almost seventy years, not the same volumes. I’ve had to replace individual books several times over the years because I read them so many times that the pages would fall out.The five book Tarzan series had something for every reader. Romance, mystery, suspense and adventure, it was all there. Burroughs had a way of hooking his readers and keep them turning the pages without throwing in a lot of gratuitous sex and violence. There was violence where violence was essential to the story but it was never overdone simply for shock purposes and there never was any gratuitous sex. As for sex, it hinted sex at but never overt. If you have never read the Tarzan Series, if you have never read Edgar Rice Burroughs you are missing out on some superb stories by a master storyteller. Read him!

Exciting Novel but not AS much so as Burroughs' first novel .I would Recommend this novel. After reading other authors, for example, Jules Verne, not EVERYTHING can be Good , just ALL THE TIME ! ! I plan to continue the Edgar Rice Burroughs Tarzan series and no doubt , Some Will be better than others.THAT IS THE WAY IT IS WITH ALL AUTHORS !!! Dean Koontz, Stephen King, Nicholas Sparks.... you name it ! NOBOBY is EVER a 100 % perfect in ANYTHING ..... whether it be an Author, Composer, Artist or whatever!! RECOMMENDED NOVEL ! ! !

Jane Porter, like music, has charms to soothe the savage...
Ape Man! In this, the second book in the Tarzan series, we find Jean C. Tarzan...and, Yes, he is almost an honorary Frenchman...in Paris after rescuing Jane from a Wisconsin forest fire (TARZAN OF THE APES). While he does enjoy the nightlife there, drinking absinthe and smoking French cigarettes, there still beats the heart of a savage. This is most evident when he is attacked by apaches...violent members of the French underworld...and turns into a dangerous beast before their very eyes. There's nothing more than a good fight, except for the tender touch of Jane, to get Tarzan's blood flowing to all the necessary parts of his extremely muscular body. From Paris, he travels to the Sahara, where he learns to speak passable Arabic (which comes in handy later on), back to his beloved African jungle, searches for gold in the ruins of the fabled Lost City of Opar, and finally returns to the small house where he was born on the coast of Darkest Africa. Along the way he encounters more villains and blood thirsty humans than you can shake a spear at. Oh, and he does manage to once again save Jane from death, and fates worse than, along the way. Some here have said there were too many coincidences in this book for their liking. I rather enjoyed them as they took Tarzan from one perilous adventure to another seamlessly, while the reader is carried along with the Ape Man from cliffhanger to cliffhanger. This is escapist entertainment at its outrageous best. 5 Stars

Tarzan then & now...?
Edgar Riced Burroughs was a very prolific writer in several genres. His adventure/hero series about Tarzan the Ape Man is his best known series but not his only one. He writes about heroes who fit the mold of the classic hero good against evil. Great stories and this particular one is typically interesting and well written.Burroughs wrote about Africa from the period of the late 19th Century and not from the aspect that we know today. It makes for an intewresting contrast.

Story and audio version are enjoyable; text of Kindle version is a mess.
My review is for the Kindle version and audio add-on. First the text for Kindle was not properly edited and was entered with hard paragraph breaks in the middle of sentences, which causes annoying breaks in the sentence flow. So, you don't have normally formatted paragraphs. Second, the audio quality of the narration is poor. The actor/reader does a fair job, but his loud gasping breaths between sentences can be distracting at times. His French accent sounds so much like Steve Martin's French accent, that it makes me laugh! The story is fun but the number of coincidences and Tarzan's reluctance to rid himself of his archenemy strain credulity. Evenso, I'm enjoying it and recommend the audio version, but not this Kindle edition. Fortunately, I am listening more than reading. If I were only reading, the odd text breaks would drive me crazy.

Great Story
Takes place where "Tarzan of the Apes" leaves off and brings to a conclusion the love story between Tarzan and Jane.I rate this book a solid A, whereas I only gave its predessor a B+.Though the Tarzan series are works of fiction, there are way too many coincidences in the story, but I still enjoyed the book immensely.I love reading books that have stood the test of time.

A Thriller
In this second Tarzan book, Edgar Rice Burroughs continues the epic tale of Tarzan. Working for the War Ministry of France as a special agent, Tarzan makes a deadly enemy who will stop at nothing to destroy the ape man. Cast adrift at sea, he survives the ordeal and voyages deep into the jungle to team up with the natives in foiling deadly raids, and exploring an ancient lost city where he almost loses his life. From the desert or Algeria, to the jungles of Tarzan’s youth, adventure after adventure leap off the pages.

Good Book
Purchased this for my father as a birthday present and he loved it. The original Tarzan stories are a lot different to the way he is portrayed in film and on TV and, thus, if you like reading, my father would definitely recommend this and all the original Edgar Rice Burroughs Tarzan stories to you.
