Street Kings [DVD] [2008]

Not watched yet seen it before so l know it’s a good movie.

This is a great movie (to me) that has Keanu Reeves along with a great ensemble cast that make this police thriller worth watching...The package arrived a few days early than I expected & when i opened it up it was properly sealed with the usual thin plastic covering that has been wrapped around it that you have to tear off to open the case that the DVD movie is inside...To be honest I wasn't sure what to expect with regards to it being New or Pre-owned as I too busy doing the usual ordering for the Festive Season & I completely forgot if I ordered a new copy of this film or a pre-owned one & I was glad once i opened up the cardboard package it's delivered in I & I saw the plastic covering & sealing the product inside & that it was in fact new...At times when one buys some pre-owned films or game's they aren't always in the condition as they were described & hence why I prefer to buy new copies if I can get them on Amazon...Well all have our own opinions of what we like & what I like in a movie others may not but I honestly enjoyed this movie as Keanu isn't playing his usual straight good guy or bad guy as there are grey areas with the character he plays in " Street Kings "Along with the always great Forest Whitaker & a great ensemble cast made this a movie I wanted to own rather than borrow from a friend & its in my Always To Watch Movies , after a certain time has passed since my last viewing...I definitely recommend the order & how it was delivered to me & I'd recommend that those who haven't watched this movie to give it a watch as you might be pleasantly surprised by this movies as its one of those movies that seem to go under the radar at the cinema but has done well on DVD & Blu Ray...Now to pick up my favourite snack of a sub sandwich/a packet of tangy cheese dorito's/ a few chocolate bars & some soft drinks before I sit down to enjoy this movie again........

Ok so you've read the Amazon review and synopsis which is quite comprehensive the only thing left to do is compress it and add opinion.What's it about?LA police officers who are stealing from the bad guys to create a large pot of money for their retirement, this theme runs in the back ground while you are shown quarrels between police officers and a the way of the "gun slinger" a police assassin who goes in and kills all the bad guys (a Dexter kind of character) and racism from all sides. The film shows some interesting interrogation techniques involving razor wire and phone book.The film is self starts slow but goes straight into a gun deal where Reeves gets his ass kicked after insulting the Korean baddies this is then followed by his secret police job as the gun slinger and he gets his own back while saving some girls, the film then shows the discontent between him and his first partner who is now becoming a problem for the police mafia who employ some assassins "living nightmare" who kill his ex partner from there it's the usual revenge story line where after being suspended reeves goes onto confront and kill the "living nightmares" and finds out the police mafia his employers are trying to hang him out to dry and kill him.Actors.Keanu Reeves plays the roll of the alcoholic gun slinger quite well with tale of woe behind it.Forrest Whittaker has clearly got the taste for playing police man after his stint in the shield and plays the king pin.Hugh Laurie has in my opinion a very short roll in this film. A good move as he does not really fit in and has possibly been cast in the same way the movie makers used to insert Americans into films to sell movies to the Americans (A bridge too far, American saves the bridge not real version of events).Over all impression.This is an excellent action movie that plays out like an extended episode of the shield only with a bigger budget, it is also one for the DVD collection especially if you liked Training Day.I am hoping that the Blu Ray version will be offering a lot more than the standard DVD version as they are charging more for it, but I am doubtful.

In this one the thin line between good cop and bad cop kind of disappears. You don't know wether to agree with what is going on or not. I was torn for the most part of it. But then I think we don't have the same approach to the police force as Americans have. So it's rather difficult to understand and follow.Nevertheless I liked the acting especially since I'm a huge fan of Whitaker and Reeves. Both appear to behave naturally and genuine. As the story unfolds you are absolutly torn between sympathy and anger for what both of them do.I think this is another great Ayer movie. One star I draw for it's length which is always a problem with his movies.

starring keanu reeves and forest whitaker primarily, this is a tale very much in the style of the tv show "the shield", though perhaps not quite as good. also similar to a film called "dark blue" a few years ago starring kurt russell. keanu reeves plays it in his usual understated method, allowing for the showier actors to steal the stage - notably forest whitaker who is, as usual, absolutely breathtaking. also watch for the cameo by hugh laurie, playing a variation on his "house" persona, apparently.overall i rate this film highly - it's dark, brutal and well-made with great performances throughout.

Street Kings is a great movie. It shows how work is done in the police department/Detectives and how corruption and greed can get to anybody. Very hard truths in this movie. Is very well done and with great actors. Very violent and with a few bloody shootings.I really enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. Street Kings deserves more credit. On Blu Ray picture quality looks very nice. Own it on dvd as well and you can easily tell the difference. Great movie just get it.

Meine Vorrezensenten haben zum Film selbst ja schon alles geschrieben, also von mir nur kurze Anmerkungen.Der Film ist genau das, was ich erwarte, wenn ich harte Cop-Action sehen will. Genail! Dass hier mit Klischees gearbeitet wird und die Handlung nicht wahnsinnig innovativ ist, ist absolut in Ordnung für das Genre, der Film verliert dadurch überhaupt nicht. Es geht hier nicht um einen Arthouse Film!Die FSK 18 halte ich allerdings für gnadenlos übertrieben! Ich hätte mir den Film beinahe nichteinmal angesehen, weil ich so meine Grenze bei Filmbrutalität habe. Ich bin also wirklich nicht abgestumpft, aber mal ehrlich, "96 Hours - Taken" (ebenfalls ein genialer Film) ist ab 16 und bei WEITEM brutaler und emotional härter zu ertragen. Und bei Filmen wie Braveheart werden ab 16 Köpfe abgeschlagen, aber bei historisch angehauchten Filmen scheint das OK zu sein.
