The Iliad and the Odyssey Paperback – 10 Sept. 2022

I purchased both of these books from Amazon, however I struggle to read the small print and ordered them again a ebooks where I can set my own font size

I ordered this book so I could recieve it at my acedemic prize giving, where it was going to be awarded to me for my high grade in Classical Civ. Therefore I wanted something with a bit of ceremony, when I came across this copy of Homer's epic poems I knew it was the one I wanted. It is now one of my favourite books, the cover is just gorgeus and the translation is very good. I love the fact that it is leatherbound and I know I will keep it forever. It is now pride of place on my bookshelf and I highly reccomend it to anyone who is passionate about classic literature!

In order to get these two classics into one volume the print is very small and the layout is awful. These two books are classic legends and have stood the test of time. This presentation does not do them justice

Was hoping for one written in modern English. This is not it

I enjoy reading but this really helps me fall asleep

I have, as a lot of other readers, already read this book at least 6 to7 times. I love it! I was, and still am, thrilled when I saw it as a collectible book, when I received it I couldn't put it down, every time I walk by my library I have to admire it again... I intend to read it once more, well done Homer fantastic stories. By the way I'm not talking about "Homer Simpson" I am referring to the ancient Greek author! Buy it and enjoy it when the winter arrive, get this great book and a large glass of brandy comfy in front of a fire place, that's living!!!

I had previously left a negative review based on a misunderstanding on my part. The seller promptly reached out, explained the situation, and kindly offered compensation. Overall the transaction was prompt, product was as described, and seller was prompt in communication.

This book looks absolutely amazing, though its not really a reading copy - its too heavy and not handy - personally I would prefer reading penquin paperback. It will do as a present or if you collect books and think of them in terms of decoration.What I do not like about this book is that its translated and displayed on pages like a novel rather than epic.Nonetheless Butlers translation is good quality and pleasant to read.I recommend this to anyone (although if you have never before read Homer's work, you want to read it and you dont care about the cover - penquin paperback will be much better for you)!I would go for Butler's translation mainly because of his invocation to Illiad which i believe became famous in english more than any other version'Sign, O goddess, the anger of Achilles, son of peleus, that brought countless ills upon the Acheans!' Marvellous! This one sentence and beautiful cover make the book worth its price!

Great book of storytelling, heroes, bravery, and revenge. The story of the war at Troy and Ulysses travel home. Must read

This book contains the book wise summary of both of Iliad and odyssey but it doesn't have the character list. Otherwise the book is good.

I still find the Lang translation to be the best balanced retaining the feel of the Greek text but using clear language.
