Color-Blend Applique

This is a beautifully written and illustrated book about applique. It takes the fabric artist to new levels by teaching techniques that are simple yet affective. Specifically, this book demonstrates how to use different fabric shades of the same color to bring depth and dimension to flowers and leaves. I have sewn for many years and I found this book to be informative and inspiring. Good choice for the fabric artist who would like to develop new skills.

I bought this book sometime ago, and have just been lazy to not write about it, until now.In my opinion, it’s a good book to have on hand. Jane gives her appliqué instructions for 12 flower blocks, in this book. (This doesn’t mean you are limited to creating just the 12 blocks.)As with 90% of any crafting/sewing/quilting book, the first few pages are always the author’s ideas on the “how to do” instructions, then comes: either patterns or pictures of the projects.As with this book, it follows the same stereo typical concept “of the how to do”. But then she puts in a gallery of photos. OMG! They are just breath taking. And to learn that “average” quilters are the ones that made the blocks, just adds that much more beauty to it all. It gives the reader that knowledge/sense of pride that they too can recreate one of these beautiful flowers.FYI. Make sure you read her books in release/publishing order. Otherwise it gets a little confusing. I think she started her appliqué series off with “Artful Appliqué”. It helps with understanding the complexity to her designs.

Il metodo di Jane Townswick offre risultati stupendi a chi riesce a perseverare ma io ho trovato le istruzioni qualchevolta difficili a comprendere. Per fortuna alla fine sono riuscita ad adattare il suo metodo alle mie necessità.

I was thrilled to find this book by Jane Townswick. I had only been able to find a small article on her style of applique. It is a unique approach to appliqueing detailed, intricate work. The results are stunning and much easier to attain a high degree of precision. The book has beautiful photography of the quilts made by her students. Clear and concise instructions plus high quality pictures make it an easy book to follow and learn from. I highly recommend this book even to beginners to the joys of applique.
