This is such a great gift for your pre teen/teen who is clever and loves to change the rules of games you play! My sons love this!

The white box is an extraordinary tool for those interested in game design. Depending on your prototyping needs you may need a free more things for your game, a couple things I'm looking at are dry erase playing cards, and a dry erase game board. But you can easily make those kinds of things with stuff from around the house like index cards and poster paper.The book of Essays has been fantastic and very informative. I'd say the majority of it is focused on post development, like marketing your game, getting it made and sold etc. All very helpful, but less of a focus on the actual game design part in my opinion.

Got this for a friend who was interesting in designing board games.

After working for a few years in the board game industry I started reading this book with a skeptical eye, expecting to get vague advice that would only be marginally helpful.Instead I found myself taking careful notes, as this book is full of solid, detailed descriptions of the steps someone should follow to avoid the unseen pitfalls in the industry. I learned a great deal from this book, and recently bought a copy for one of my employees to read. I consider this to be the only primer in game design in print currently.Outstanding job!

I have nothing but good things to say about this gaming kit. It honestly gives you everything you need to start a tabletop game from scratch! During this time of crisis it also serves as a tool to get your family together on a great crafting project. I encourage anyone; even people who normally do not play board games to try this out! You’ll be surprised what you can create with this set.

The product is advertised as the white box game guide, which includes game pieces, a book guide. The product that arrived was only the book which leaves out a huge portion of this product. Very disappointed. If the product being sold was ONLY the book, that should have been clear from the product photo and description

This box just provides some basic, generic board game items, like tokens and meeples and dice. The book is 90% about how to take an existing game concept and get it in the hands of a publisher or build hype at a game convention. The book starts out talking about the many mistakes he has made in creating unbalanced games and then does not talk at all about them or how to spot them earlier. It doesn't talk about how go from nothing to something. The book might be useful if you have already have a fleshed out game and you want to start making money on it (but in that case, you probably don't need the rest of the kit of generic board game tokens).

Neat collection of color-coordinated pieces, plus rewritable cards. Good quality too. I’ll get some good use in my homebrew games. Useful for replacing lost game pieces too.

The box is well made and includes many tokens, dice, cubes, meepels and other material. However, the meeples and cubes are smaller than regular size for board games, and the big cubes are way too big. So they are only partially useful and you'll likely need to purchase more extra parts to have a standard set of boardgame pieces. But still, it's better than other starter packs, which have even less usefull stuff inside. So I would recomend it if you can get the box at a reasonable price. But check the box content on the internet before you buy.
