Very Good!!!!
I did like the story, and the way Barnes wrote it. Download was fast to my Samsung tablet and stored in my kindle app. Pitty the app does not allow the option of audio-book, or underline important sentences along the story. All the same, I do recommend this book, and the download of it by kindle. Overall result: 8/10

Read the whole book
I must admit I struggled through this book thoroughly disliking the main character and his old friend and couldn't figure out where the story was going. However the final chapter (almost an epilogue) made the read worthwhile and in fact after I read it once, I retread it slowly and savored each word and sentiment

Metroland
Julian Barnes is my preferred author for the present time. I read the great majority of his books. They contain a lot of life philosophy. I felt richer spiritually after reading each of his books. The most beautiful page I read about fiction was the preface of his latest book "Through the window". I read it for all my friends

Live Your Youth Over Again
Metroland introduced me to Julian Barnes. Had to order all of his after that. He’s wonderful but so far this first one was the most fresh and vivid. A must read for modern novels.

A schoolboy whirl in Paris
BARNES SAYS HIS MOTHER HATED THIS DIRTY-MINDED LITTLE BOOK AND i CAN UNDERSTAND WHY SHE DID. BUT IT APPEALS TO MY DIRTY LITTLE MIND!!!

More than a coming of age novel....
An interesting first novel, this does an excellent job of switching from the teen point of view to that of the settled adult later. It examines many key turning points in life, and also holds well to its chronological setting, giving clear pictures of times and places.

Barnes lite
A good book of course but of the 4 or so I have read it has the least substance.Definitely no Sense of an Ending.

Mr. Barnes first, but probably equal to his best.
An extraordinary work that shows fully why Julian Barnes may be one of the best English language authors -- not just of the 20th-21st centuries, but ever.Few compare with his depth of observation and insight and fewer still with the ability to effortlessly convey it in words.

Great Service
Book arrived in good condition, at a reasonable price. Very satisfied with this.

I should have tried harder in French.
This is a rather clever story of two very clever boys. The story line runs from confident (possibly even over-confident) school boys, though growing adulthood and eventually into the comforts of conformity for one and maintained range for the other. This is a very familiar story line and most people of my age - teenaged when university did not burden you with debt for life, and "youth" were expected to rebel - will find people and things they recognize. While I can understand why this book is so highly regarded, one thing about it did really annoy me. The characters in the books use French phrases to talk to each other - secret codes that distance them from, or in their minds elevate them above, the masses.Unfortunately the use of the French phrases in the book does the same thing to the reader - well it did I for me at least. While the meaning of some of the phrases can be deduced from how they are used, some cannot. As such, the joke remains on me, the poor dolt in 9C who never mastered French.Did I enjoy the book? - well, yes I did.Would I recommend the book - yes I would, but if your French is as limited as mine, you may find it just a wee bit annoying.

"Some funny and insightful moments
Score: 5.7/10Comments: "Some funny and insightful moments, but mostly quite dull and pretentious characters droning on about nothing much" "Funny in parts, quite a self-indulgent narrator but maybe that is just a reflection of him as a very middle-class man of a certain era. Liked the historical details." "What annoying young men, well done though. If characters have to be annoying I do prefer them well written" "Had some difficulty summoning interest in or empathy for any of the characters at any stage of their lives- possibly barring the evil and hilarious Uncle Arthur. Ah well!"

Defectuoso
Una estrella porque no admite poner menos.Libro defectuoso. Cubierta y páginas iniciales arrugadas por haber estado mojadas. Sello " Amazon Warehouse deals. Offres Reconditionnées. Productos Reacondicionados" cuando lo que se ofrecía, y lo que he comprado, es "nuevo."

Lovely look at life in the suburbs
As an inhabitant of Metroland myself I thoroughly enjoyed this short book - definitelty recommend! Though the novel could be a little longer in order for the characters to be better developed it is nevertheless an interesting read.
