Good overview of AFL
This is a very good coffee-table book covering the history of the AFL. It is full of great pictures and overall histories of the teams during the 1960's. Some of the names will jog your memories of those great AFL teams. However, I wish there were some anecdotes that would shed light on the actual personalities of the pioneer players from the early years of the AFL. With names like Wahoo McDaniel, Bo Hickey, etc. you know there just had to be some real characters during those days. An anecdotal account would be a great companion to this book and the author should consider this idea for a follow-up book.

A Must Have for AFL ans!
This book is my Bible for information about The American Football League, the league that brought the NFL to its knees. Loaded with photographs and images of AFL players trading cards, this book delivers everything you need to know about the little league that could, and did! Stats, old unis? This book has it all! The AFL was in existence from 1960 through the 1969 season. I came along in '66, so this book fills in the gaps before I was born and those I was too young to remember. If you're a fan of today's NFL and the long pass, you should read this book just to learn where the bomb was born!

Poorly Written
This book is based on an excellent idea, to chronicle the history of the A.F.L., and the author's research is appreciated. Sadly, poor writing, non-stop grammatical errors, and horrible (maybe nonexistent) editing make the book more difficult to accept than a New York Titans attendance count. Doesn't anyone take pride in craftsmanship any more? My son works in book publishing and if he ever allowed something like this to reach print, he'd be fired before the ink dried.

Nostalgic
Great read! Brought back memories of great pro games at reasonable prices, collecting player trading cards, playing electric football and reading Monday's newspaper to catch up on the weekend's game results. Great photos.

I'm not a fan of the AFL, but....
..I enjoyed every page of this book.I was always an NFL fan, and cried when the Colts (the BALTIMORE COLTS) lost to the NY Jets. That being said, I am a history buff of "older football" during this time period, and found this book a joy to read. The use of AFL football cards just added to the enjoyment (lots of color)Other reviews go into detail on WHY to buy it (& they are correct). Do yourself a favor and pick this one up.

GOOD: Organized
GOOD: Organized, detailed recounting of each season for every AFL team along with a few "sidebar" items. Written in the style of a newspaper season summary, including highlights and lowlights.BAD: Typos and grammatical errors are so common they distract the reader and reflect really poor editing. Very little insight into the characters and storylines that made the AFL such an interesting part of the sports scene during the 1960s, both on and off the field.

massive undertaking
Covers each team's season highlights with stats, scores and summaries of each team's season. The action pics are fantastic as are the football card pics. Don't really get why they used color reproductions to show uniform styles over the years (why not color pics?).There are quizzes throughout that you may enjoy.Basically, it's a nice looking coffee table book and is a good companion to the remembertheafl Web site and NFL Films DVD sets like "From the Vault" or the various ex-AFL (now AFC) "Complete History" DVDs.(The AFL history TV series "Full Color Football" shown on Showtime TV features stuff from this book, too.)
