Nicely written, but...
These all seemed to blur into one story. I kept on thinking there must be more there, but if there were any hidden depths, then I couldn't find them. They're well written and there's a sense of melancholy and of wistfulness, but they didn't grab me. Maybe their world and the petite bourgeois worries are just not universal enough to reach me.

Drunkenly Translated?
After having read and loved Hour of the Star by Lispector I had high expectations. Unfortunately, this didn’t quite meet them. There were three short stories and it was nice to have some variation. But the last short story really confused me. I didn’t understand the character roles and that led to me appreciating it less. But that might just be on me.I really liked the sense of the lost and longing in the first two short stories. The writing style just didn’t vibe for me here and I am thinking it could be the translation? Especially as her writing style was so wonderful in her novella…I just didn’t feel the depth and connection to the short stories like I did with her novella. Maybe they were too short to demonstrate such depth in only the space of a few paragraphs…This review can originally be found on Olivia's Catastrophe.

It wasn’t bad, but it also wasn’t memorable
This was okay, but it just struggled to hold its own against the other books in the collection. It wasn’t bad, but it also wasn’t memorable. Still fun, though.

Tales of obsession and madness - wistful, melancholic, funny
These are three stories about obsession and madness (my favourite topics). I found it very funny but I think it should have been wistful and full of melancholy. It may be because I am jaded and cynical. The first story is the best of the three. I enjoyed reading them, and hence the four stars, because they are set in Brazil and I am very fond of South American settings and writing styles. However, it was difficult for me to gauge what I was supposed to gain or what conclusion to draw by the end of the stories. Maybe it is too subtle."The morning became a long, drawn-out afternoon that became depthless night dawning innocently through the house."
