Q: How long does the filter typically last?

I would say about a month. I do not like the way the filter is attached to the lid. There is no protection so if the pail is full, the filter gets gunk on it.

Q: Does the bin say "Compost" on both front and back?

It only says compost on one side

Q: If you don't empty it every day does mold grow inside?

We generate so much vegetable waste that we do empty it quite frequently. I doubt it has ever gone more than a week MAX without being emptied. That said, I have never seen any mold growing.
