Super photos
This is a great book. It is accessible for a beginner (like me) and lays out a doable 10 week/daily plan of progression. The photos are large and clear. My only suggestion is that if you are older, like myself, that you do it in more like 30 weeks to give your body more time to stretch and strengthen.

THE Guide for Yoga: more than just poses
I love this book! This book meets the needs of beginner to advanced yoga practitioners, including suggested poses for headaches, tight shoulders, tight hips, etc. It is easy to read, and the photographs are extremely helpful.

Very good intro Yoga Book
I bought this book on the recommendation of my intro Yoga instructor.I definitely would recommend also taking the class, so you get feedback from a live instructor regarding the various poses.overall, this is a great pictorial guide to some basic yoga positions - with people in really funny outdated spandex suits!

Great reference book
This is one of the first yoga books I purchased. It covers a number of poses that really are not just for the beginner. But the book is comprehensive and will provide a great foundation for a home yoga practice as well as a great reference book.It is not too long and easy to read, but not the best for a first yoga book.

The weekly sequence section is especially helpful
I love this book. I also have the book that the author wrote with her family, Yoga: The Iyengar Way. This book - How to Use Yoga - is more basic and more for a beginner (my yoga teacher says we are all beginners until we have practiced for 50 years!). What I like about this book is the pictures used for the sequences by week. It makes it really easy to put together a morning practice and be sure to practice a variety of asanas.

decent book, not great
Pictures not from enough angles. Need more close-up s. Explanations are decent but not fantastic. The routines are helpful. Still not enough pictures

A great yoga picture book
My favorite features of this book are: 1) wonderful photos of 'real' people demonstrating poses and variations 2) the 10-week course that helps you develop a rhythmic and regular yoga practice at home. I found these very helpful because I can't afford to take classes every day and I have trouble remembering which asanas to do when I don't have an instructor. The weekly courses are illustrated across two open pages so you don't have to interrupt your practice to flip pages. It isn't the only yoga book I own, but it is certainly the one I use most often. Once you have some idea how to do the postures correctly, I recommend The Yoga Deck: 50 Poses & Meditations for Body, Mind, & Spirit which you can use to build your own course and has some nice breathing and meditation cards.

Excellent daily sequences to prepare for Iyengar Yoga Intro I assessment
The 10 week course of daily sequences at the end of this book is a very effective way to prepare for Iyengar Yoga Intro I assessment. I just started my Iyengar Yoga teacher training and I came to the realization that my home practice was not helping me to prepare for assessment. I did not "know" the basic asanas well enough to teach them. More important, my foundation for the more advanced asanas was incomplete. The sequences in this book afford me the time to practice variations, spend more time in each pose, repeat poses, experience and perfect alignment, learn the cues from my own practice. There are sequences organized weekly, a Monday/Wednesday/Friday sequence, a Tuesday/Thursday Sequence, a Saturday sequence and a Sunday sequence.

Excellent graphics for home yoga use
10/10 for this pictorial book on yoga, which is extremely helpful for home use by the beginner. When the yoga studio cannot come to the student, this book can instruct for short-term use.

how to use yoga

How to use Yoga
An excellent book for beginners. The pictures are very clear and there are more gentle options givens in all poses, so you can go as far into the pose as you wish. It is written in a clear style which is understandable to all and just gives the basics of a yoga practice. At the end of the book are sequences of poses for a week at a time so you can gradually increase the time and range of movements. If you buy this book and are not quite sure if yoga is for you, I think it will help you enormously to realise that yoga is actually for anyone and can only benefit. I started yoga just a few months ago at a 'senior' age because I wanted to keep mobile and flexible for as long as possible. Already I can see and feel the difference. This book helps you at home as an 'aide memoir' in between classes with your teacher.

Very good for beginners
Simple and well done, especially if you start with yoga practice, but interesting also for seasoned yoga students. Mira Mehta is always a must when it comes to Iyengar yoga
