Hammy

This is a wonderful book about a young girl's first pet and the relationship that develops between her hamster and the family's cat. The author's colorful watercolors, large book format, and hand-lettered text will draw children into the story. And that's especially true of the striking cover. That cute little hamster is looking right at the reader as if saying, "I see you!" With the cat showing interest from below, a young child will naturally be concerned about Hammy's welfare and want to open the cover right away.

I chose this rating because I felt this was a good book for all ages. The art work was very pleasing and I enjoyed the story. My granddaughters were particularly enchanted.
