Detailed and easy to follow. Perfect for yoga fans
I purchased this book as my sister recommended it. I've recently taken up yoga and wanted to not only learn about the individual poses but also the theory behind yoga. This book is great as it includes pretty much every yoga move you can think of, as well as detailed sections on the theory of yoga and its origins, and breathing techniques etc. It's a compact book but pretty chunky with the number of pages; I've not read it all but it's definitely got everything in it I would possibly need as far as yoga is concerned, and I look forward to reading it in full! I think it was first published a few years ago (the photos give this away!) but that in no way lessens how good it it. Lots of the more modern books don't cover half of what is in here. If you're looking for just one read which covers all you need to know about yoga, this is your book

Excellent book, good reference for a beginner like me
As a begginer, this book helps a lot to remember, and practice moves seen in class while alone at home. A book will of course never replace Yoga classes and sceances with more experienced people, but I found it a very useful material for making the move from sporadic yoga classes (once a week) into regular personal practice at home (ance a day) It has very clear explanations as to how to do the postures correctly, how to move from one to an other, how to breathe and what to focus on, most of the posture are illustrated. At the beginning I though the name "Yoga bible" was a little bit presomptuous but it perfectly does the job of a reference enabling to recheck some forgotten postures/move cycles and read more in depth indications as to how and why to do them and it does contain an awfull lot of them

Good explanations
I am very new to yoga and started on home DVD's . I bought this book to help me with the poses I was learning and also to help me customise my work out. The book has some great descriptions of how and why to use each pose. Each pose has a photograph and detailed instructions on how to work on the pose. There are suggestions on how the pose can be simplified for beginners. The book is very user friendly and emphasises the importance of making yoga work for you, removing the competitive element. There are some very advanced positions which look a little scary but which means that the book will probably be useful for quite some time. There is also a section on meditation, breathing exercises and different types of yoga. A great introduction to the subject. Only criticism: the pages don't stay open so it's hard to keep the book open in front of you whilst you attempt a new pose or are trying to improve upon one.

Very well explained
I've done yoga classes in the past and decided I wanted to do it myself at home, so I bought this book as it was recommended on amazon. I've only just started using it but I am pleased with it as it really talks you through every pose, in much detail. So far I remember most poses which makes it easier for me to do. I'm not sure how easy it would be if you've never done yoga before, I think you would then need someone to talk you through it. I would recommend this book if you are familiar with yoga.

Excellent!
Usually preamble re yoga then excellent layout, explanations, suggestions and photos...I'm old, I'm creaky (also cranky!) my knees are shot, my back aches, my prolapse has lapsed and I'd be lost with my yoga so this book is an extremely useful tool....highly recommend 👍

Excellent book for the novice
I have been interested in and practicing yoga for a couple of years. I had some time out and wanted to get re-inspired in my practise. I ordered this book with the hope it would do that and I am not disppointed. Not only has does it contain a lot of the easier poses (some I struggle with) but also some more complex ones for me to aim towards in time. I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to practise yoga at their own pace. The images are clear and instructions are concise, well worth a place on your bookshelf. It is small in size so that I can pack it with me when away from home.

Good as a guide to follow at home.
This book is ok, the pictures are very good and the descriptions of how to get into a posture are easy to follow, it includes counterposes and modifications, some modifications need more detailing. It also covers the eight limbs of yoga which is nice to see. However, being a yoga teacher myself, I find it annoying that the translations from sanskrit are not always correct, probably due to western interpretations but it would be nice to see the true translations. It isn't a major problem if you just want a book to use as a guideline to some of the asanas. There are also the chapters that go over mudras, kriyas and pranayama, they do not cover all aspects but it gives a few general techniques. If you are just simlpy looking for something to follow at home, as well as attending a class with a fully qualified teacher then this would be fine.

Getting into yoga for health as I get older. Got this title after considering several others, and zero regrets. It seems arranged in a logical manner. The images and descriptions are clear and easy to follow. And I have to say that the work is paying off with attention to muscles and stretches that I have never really been aware of. This is a great resource even for casual yoga practitioners. I have my routines tabbed out but sometimes I open a random page and read about new positions. One thing I appreciate is that for the advanced positions, they always refer back to the more foundational poses so you can back up and go into the harder stuff more naturally. Not a replacement for a good yoga instructor! But an excellent resource that will be on my shelf for many years.

I was pondering whether to buy this, then I noticed a "used" book was being sold, and it was VERY cheap. I didn't care much if the book was a little worn and torn. However, much to my suprise. It's really new!!! Not only that, but I was expecting it to be delivered at a later date but it came SOONER than the date mentioned on the webpage...TRIPLE BONUS!!! I'm so thrilled!!! I just know I'm going to love this book. I looked at the index at the back. There is also a bonus chapter at the back about uogs for healing such as anxiety. Arthritis... constipation, and even depression......giving a short paragraph about how yoga can help, plus it gives recommended poses for just that.
