Nice little tamper with the built in pick/scoop. I gave it a 3 because of its initial design. The tamper head has a concave base, so the center of your bowl never gets properly tamped along with the edges. A quick hit on the grinding wheel flattens the surface making full use of the tamper. The breathe holes allow air to get to the cherry while tamping. 4.5 stars for the money, after an easy DIY.

Theis tool is pleasing to the eye and has a nice weight and feel. The holes in the tamper head do seem to allow more air to the ember, which aids it in staying lit while tamping. However, the grooves in the tamper head seem to grab the ash, which makes it harder to form a cohesive packed top after the initial char and also creates more mess as the ash loosely follows the tamper head when removed from the pipe bowl. Overall a quality tool, but it would be much better without the grooves. The "nozzle cleaner" pipe pick tool is a welcome inclusion and works as expected.

This is a pretty good gadget for your tobacco pipes nonetheless but i ordered this really cool blue option and received the same product in black. I didn't feel like returning it but i always find this annoying.
