7 1/2" is the Overall Length
I originally put up a question whether the cutting depth was 7 1/2" or the overall length was 7 1/2" and got no response, so I threw caution to the wind. Well the answer is it's the overall length, so you lose whatever length goes in the chuck. I have to bore through 7" timbers, so it'll just take some attention to get through properly. Fear not, I'll find reasons to use these. With that out of the way, these bore some nice holes with little effort. I chucked mine up into a brace and took out the handy scrap piece of ancient 2x4 that I test bits on and ran each the 1/2", 3/4" and 1" through. If you let the lead screw do its job, tear out on the back was minimal. A green timber should work nicely.Make sure you get ones with the cutting spurs! I used one without them and while it punched right through, it made a real mess of the hole. Spurs pre-cut the fibers and will bore a cleaner hole. The cutting edge itself makes perfect little potato chips that pop out of the hole you're boring. I don't know why they even make them without.I assume the Teflon coating does something for the bits, but I wonder what it does to the ability to sharpen them. Time will tell.TL:DR - These bore some nice clean holes. If I have a problem sharpening them, I'll come back and update in the future.

If you're "thinking" about doing it, just do it.
Just got mine in and ran a trial in some scraps... Just wow. Fast, easy, clean holes. Drill from the top til the worm just pokes the tip out, flip the board and finish from that side. "Cuts through like butter" is a falsehood... Butter is chunkier.

Great bits
Nice sharp bits with little to no tear out and smooth holes.

Best auger bits
These are fast augers that don’t heat up like other bits. Smooth cutting and minimal tear out on the backside.

Very surprised
These were my first P90 style pickups. The quality of the pickups themselves is great. The audio quality is fantastic. Really happy with these.

Horrible
The heads on them wore out way to fast didn’t last a week. I think if the tips was longer then they would work a lil better.. but aft it hits a nail it’s done… it does cut some clean holes

Our martian grandchildren will still be using these bits with wonder and awe in their function.
I'm very happy with these bits! I've been eyeing them for some time and after watching a video by James on the WoodByWright Youtube channel I had to pull the trigger on a 3 pack ( .5", .75", 1.00"). Simply put, I'm in love. They function incredibly well in the bit and brace (swing brace, brace and bit, brace with bit idk really). Additionally, they work super well in power drill, or at least they have the few times I've used them as such. Anywho, they're just sweet, one of these days I'm gonna gather them all!!

Great brace bits.
Came in quality packaging to protect it during shipping. They cut really well with a brace and stable for keeping accuracy.
