Computer came without S/pdif audio output. I pluged in audio cable to my soundbar and usb to my computer. Wala, we had great sound. Simple and effective.

Solved a much needed problem
For the past 2 years I have been struggling with a 27” Samsung TV’s volume output. Soundbar didn’t help. Bluetooth headphones failed to work but this simple little box did the awesome trick of allowing me to have a decent volume.

It works on macbook pro
I got it this so I could get audio from my macbook pro into my RME AD-2 DAC fs.The good new: it works. If you were on the fence, it absolutely works for outputting audio from the laptop. Works very easily, just select the audio device from system settings to USB PnP Sound Device. The bad: the sound quality lacks. Maybe I have a much lower tolerance for less than optimal sound, but comparing it to my PC connnected via USB, it cannot compare. It is not even close. I have tidal hifi and the difference is immediately apparent: sound feels very muffled, the loudness is about half of what you get from the USB connection.I was tempted to give it 3 stars because doing an a-b comparison, it is BAD. But I think most people's scenarios who will be looking at this adapter will not be the same as mine, and will be much more tolerant to the level of quality coming out of this adapter. I don't want to make it seem like it sounds distorted, or has any artifacts. It is just about 10% of the quality of the USB connection, letting the DAC do the conversion on its own.TL;DR: it will output sound from your mac's USB to optical with no issues, but don't expect anything close to an audiophile presentation.EDIT: The laptop itself is a LOT better at driving Hifiman Arya Stealths than this thing connected to the ADI-2 DAC fs. Cleaner and louder. So basicaly a waste of money if you can go almost any other route, like me. If you can't, then it still has its use.

Very Nice for Older Receivers
Hooked an old laptop with touch screen to my forty year old Sony receiver's SPDIF port. Turned it into a nice point and click ROON server. The sound quality is very good especially when going through the old wired Bose speakers. Mounted the unit in the garage and we use it for outdoor parties. This is a no-brainer hook up via USB to any device with one. I've also test it on an Apple iPad (the Bluetooth died) using the lightning to USB camera adapter and it works just as well. Very versatile product.

Works as advertisted
I wanted to try SPDIF from my Mac to the audio equipment to use it's DAC. It works as advertisted and sounds great!

Optical relief
This device worked like a champ, after realizing my newly purchased Samsung Crystal UHD DU7200D didn’t come with an optical port. This device was easy to connect, and was ready to go without any issues. And it also arrived a day early.
