Magnum Opus
I've been a fan of Dan Clowes since 1985. This is is his best work to date. Amazing! It feels like a thematic full circle return to Velvet Glove. I only wish it were an oversize deluxe edition. The art is so beautiful and my middle aged eyes strain a bit.

Another classic Clowes
Clowes' later work is more anxious and paranoid than his earlier works such as Ghost World. There was always that darkness in his Eightball stories but here, even through the differing time periods and fantastical elements, it feels more real and current. There are 9 stories, centering around the titular character Monica, presented in full colour hardback. If you're a fan of Clowes, I think you'll enjoy reading through this and it might just make you want to reread it too. If you're new to Clowes, this is a good starting point.

El libro tenía un golpe
El cómic me ha encantado pero lamentablemente no estaba precintado y tenia un golpe al costado que ha dañado las páginas un poco. No está bien comprar un libro nuevo y que esté dañado

Another movie in the works?
Has Dan gone HollyWood? I got about half way through and lost interest. Maybe I'll give it another try sometime or maybe not. Wish I hadn't bought it.

Read Twice
I have read Monica twice. First time I was drawn in but totally confused. Second time it made more sense. The story is fragmentary in an artful way that lets the reader tie the ends together n different configurations. Monica is obsessively trying to make sense of a broken legacy — the random stunted relationships and dead ends her mother Penny — a child of the sexual revolution — left behind. Penny’s feminist friend tells her “it’s our duty to drop all the guilt and shame & allow ourselves some god damn pleasure”, and Penny takes this advice to its chaotic conclusion —dumping her daughter on her parents’ doorstep along the way. Monica is a hard boiled, wisecracking survivor, but as she retraces her mother’s journey, interviewing one burned out ex after another, her own life begins to reflect the shattered mirror of her mother. Are the supernatural elements and cult elements evidence of Monica’s mind collapsing or does she step in and out of various cracks in reality? Perhaps the third time is the charm.
