HAND-MADE QUALITY – BLEMISHES – ROLLS EASILY – WASHING CAUTION
There is obvious hand-crafting involved in the manufacture of this wooden rolling pin made in Vietnam. There are blemishes and varnish drips (see pic). One handle had a rough spot (see pic). I am 90% certain that there is a metal rod (of unknown composition) connecting the handles (hard to see clearly in the gap). I recommend never putting this in a dishwasher or soaking it in a sink – wood product and you do not want water getting into the roller. You should clean it with a slightly damp cloth and dry it immediately. I cannot vouch for the durability of the varnish coating until we have used it for at least a dozen baking projects. I will update this review if there are any issues discovered. Except for the varnish drips, the blemishes add character to it.All of that being said, this rolling pin reminds me of the one my grandmother used way back in the horse-and-buggy days – my grandfather made it in his workshop, smiles. She made so many great things to eat with a wooden rolling pin just like this one. We made cookies with this one for an initial test, and it worked fine - cleanup was simple. A bit of nostalgia can be a good thing in this age of machine-perfect silicone, plastic, glass and steel utensils.

Basic rolling pin
Use this for flattening dough. Very basic. Pay attention to the dimensions. I needed small, you may need something bigger.

Finished wood of unknown type
I have mixed feelings about this one, here is why. It is a good looking rolling pin, no doubt. It has ergonomically shaped handles with smooth bearings - so far so good. The wood looks and feels like wood, has a good weight to it and is in rich red color, bubble wrapped for safe shipping - great. Now, here is where I am starting to doubt this product. The pin arrived with no informational insert of any sort and nowhere in the listing does it say what type of wood this is. The type of wood is a big deal - soft, easily dented and lightweight pine is NOT the same as luxurious mahogany or practical and durable maple, not to anyone and certainly not to a baker. Second concern I have is that this pin is finished - why is it finished and what is it finished with?? I have no idea. I have never before seen a finished wooden rolling pin. They are typically unfinished and are supposed to be periodically seasoned or primed with a special food grade mineral oil for max durability and non-stick performance. Finished wood does look pretty and I am sure needs less ongoing maintenance. However, when dusting a finished pin with flour the smooth finish prevents the flour from adhering to the pin surface and results in the pin sticking a bit to dough while rolling out. I really wish this product was explicitly marketed as "finished wood" and had some transparency regarding wood type as well as a reassuring disclosures regarding the type of finish.

LIGHTWEIGHT AND EASY TO USE!!!
I needed a smaller rolling pin as my main one is huge and when making more delicate baked items, it was simply too big to handle smaller dough items. This rolling pin is a perfect weight and rolls nicely. It doesn't take up a lot of space which is another thing I like about it. You could use this rolling pin for just about everything.

Nicely crafted Rolling Pin
This rolling pin is very comfortable to use. The handles are tapered. The wood is smooth and polished. I used it to shape a pie crust and it glided smoothly over the dough. Very little dough adhered to the rolling pin. A moist sponge easily removed the small amount of dough that did adhere. Then, I just let it air dry before putting it away with my other kitchen gadgets. I like that it is shorter than my other rolling pin. I don't need to have so much counter space cleared for maneuvering.
