If you are looking for an easy-to-carry map that shows detail of the Southern Patagonia area around Fitz Roy/El Chalten/Huemul Circuit, skip this. I realize that the description says this is a paperback, but I thought, hey, this is a map—it must be small and easy to carry. Wrong. It's actually an 8.5x11 book. The maps are topo maps (without a distance scale), zoomed in way too far, and show very little detail—you can find more trail and campsite details with a simple internet search. And the town of El Chalten is represented by an overwhelming cluster of bed and dining icons, with no names. Seriously, the entire town is just one cluster of icons. No streets or anything. If you are looking for a very simple collection of topo maps with very little detail spread across 41 pages, this is for you. If you are looking for a map to help plan treks in the region, or something to carry in your pack, look elsewhere.

This map book is useless for a trekking trip to El Chaltén. The town itself is shown very small without any detail, and the typical hikes to Laguna de los Tres and Laguna Torre are too small to use for way-finding during the hike, and are divided at inconvenient places across multiple pages. The scale is far too zoomed out for this to be useful. The quality of the paper and the printing is very good.

The book is broken up into too many pages. It like Origami in reverse trying to get a compass read with it.

This was exactly the type of topographical map we needed for the Huemul Circuit in patagonia. Worth it

I had not understood this was a book of maps. I wanted an overview and cannot get that from the book. Each map is at a large scale so good for detailed navigation.

Maybe my expectations were a little bit wrong but for my planned use, the map was to detailed. If you plan to go to el chalten just for 1-3 days and take the common trails, you don't need this kind of map, the map handed out by the park rangers is detailed enough. Maybe if you plan your own trekking trip with uncommon trails, it helps.The map is structured as a book, maybe I overread this in the product description but I think it is important to know. The book structure makes it a little bit more heavier than a usual map which could be important for a trekking tour. Even if you need this detail, you will have to switch the pages a lot to find your way. Llast points are the reason why I rated a 2 star only, because I think that its is not very practicable
