A great story for preschool aged kids
I got this for my 4 year old's preschool, and we loved the story. She is at the age where kids really start to notice and focus on differences between people and I wanted a story that taught how differences are what make people interesting and unique. This book accomplishes that, and lays great groundwork to break down the gender roles that are also so prominent at her age. She often says things are just for girls or just for boys and this challenged her to think that not only could boys and girls like the same things, but maybe it doesn't matter so much to put people in a category of girl or boy. I bought another copy to have at home.

Magical & Perfect
We wanted to find a book that would help our 5 yr old and 4 yr old begin to learn about gender non-conforming and begin normalizing for them "they/them" pronouns while also teaching them the importance of inclusion/belonging/and that it's okay to be different. This book far exceeded our expectations! It's one of my favorite kids books, not only for the great story line, but also for the magical artwork. I can't recommend it enough!

Much to love
This is my new favorite book to read to my young daughters. I love the empowering messages. I love the fact that it doesn't make it seem like moms love is a magic bandaid that makes everything better and allows for both comfort and worry. And I love that it is an inclusive message to add to our multicultural library.

Buy it for every child you know. And maybe yourself, too
I bought this as a gift for a friend’s baby when her mother said she wanted more LGBTQ+ books for the child’s library. When I first read it, I cried. The story is powerful, accessible, a positive message for all types of children, and uplifting. Stunning illustrations. I will be buying several more copies for all the kids in my life.

Excellent story with a child beyond the binary
This is such a loving and beautifully illustrated book. My kid is 6. When we got to the end, I cried. It’s wonderful, especially if you’ve been searching for a book for 4-7 year olds that shows children beyond the gender binary. It’s not overly cutesy or overwrought, just awesome.

Beautiful story
This is an absolutely beautiful, one of a kind book. I love that the author uses "they" pronouns for the child in the story, offering a great opportunity for parents/educators to talk about gender pronouns and diversity with children. Not only that, but the story and illustrations are beautiful and touching.

A gentle adventure into the concept of gender differences and the beauty of those differences.
Fabulous book to start to tap into gender identity, nothing too direct about it, my daughter is 6 and after several read through's and a little bit of Q & A she seems to be taking a lot from it. She loves the book itself, she copies the artwork style in her drawings, she talks about people being who they want to be, talks about some people not yet being sure, talks about how it's okay to be different. She told me when she grows up she's cutting her hair short and wants to be called Dennis but right now she wants super long hair, to wear pink and dance! I am trying to raise her with empathy because I feel it's a really important trait to have in a modern world, this book helps towards that. The only issue I have with the book is the rhyme the mum sings, talking about loving them until she die's, this was a bit of a struggle for my little one as the concept of death is still overwhelming, but we worked through that and now she sits and reads the book on her own over and over.

Lovely story, valuable lesson
My nephew loves this story and it’s been a great educator for us adults too. Definitely started some important conversations in my family. If you’re looking to support diversity in the life of your littles, I remember this book.
