Fabulous
These books are beyond fabulous. I cannot play the games (I am a video game idiot), but I watch my son and husband play and I got really intereseted in the characters so I decided to read the books. I have read Aspho Fields and now Jacinto's Remanent and I absolutely cannot put the down. They are well written (which I have to say shocked me), but I love learning about the characters. My only complaint, and its not really a complaint, is that they keep Marcus as an inigma. You learn about the motivations of the other main characters, and some that are not in the game, but you learn the least about my favorite character Marcus. I am definitely going to continue the series, and I hope that as it unfolds, I will learn more about the motivations of the mystery of Marcus. If you like the games, you will love the books, because it gives you background on the war, the characters, and the world of Sera.

Excellent Series!
I'm not sure what else to say other than this was a Great series! The jumping around within the series was a little distracting but nothing that should deter anyone from reading them. I must say I am a huge fan of the Gears of War series, both game and books but the books really delve into the characters and their life storyline. Karen Traviss is an excellent writer and I really didn't want to see an end to the series. These books really make you feel like Epic Games did a really poor job with their storyline compared to the in depth detail Traviss included in the series. I also find it a plus that she stuck with what little storyline Epic Games did giver her. Not to give anything away but Anyone who really enjoyed the game should definitely give this series a read.Great job Karen Traviss!

As good as the first book.
I really liked the intensity of Jacinto's Remnant, it really explained a desperate situation, in which the human race has been placed in.The flashbacks wasn't as good as the first book, but it was still exiting to find out how the locust almost won the war, and what measures the humans must take in order to survive.Like the first, we are told about a lot of persons: Baird, Cole, Anya, Hoffmann and so on.I really like how these guys are displayed, because it is very different than from the game, which only scratch the hollow of these characters so far.If you read the first and have doubts about the second don't.You won't be disappointed.

A good, fast read
If you play the game, read the books. It's awesome to read along as the story plays out in the game. The simultaneous timelines are interesting but having knowledge of the game lore helps.

Fill the gaps in the game
I have the kindle version that's not as good as having the paper copy but never the last. I'm a big fan of Gears and the book fill the gap of how the main character become who they are some point I could also relate to. This book is a must read if you a fan of gears.

Must Read: Sept 20th Was a Great Thing
Okay, I have not read any book not related to school for awhile. This book has changed my life. It is easy to read because it's like playing the game. Just import the images from the game, add some islands and you can eat while reading. I would say, I might just cancel Netflix this month because between the game, and the other books of Gears I'm going to read, there's no other form of entertainment I think I need. FYI, these books will make the story mode play better because she fills in the gap between gears 2 and 3. Forgive me if your not a fan of Sci-Fi, but it's like watching a TV series with finale as a video game.

A must for any Gears fan...
I finished this one last night and have to say I am looking forward to the next book. Like with the Halo series the Gears series digs into the background of what you see in the games, and goes beyond. While the games tell one part of the story, the books help fill in many of the gaps of what is happening in the background as well between the series games. At times it is difficult to put the book down but needing to get some sleep I had to force myself to put the bookmark in and call it a night.

I love this book
I am a huge Gears of War fan and these books were just wonderful and completely filled in the story line between each game (with the exception of Judgment which was a joke and shouldn't have the Gears of War name on it). I love the way Karen Traviss writes and the book was wonderful and it gave life to the video game that I love. Thank you for sending this too me, it was in perfect condition and I received it sooner than expected and was very please. Thanks so much.

Good Book, Fills the Holes
This is a decent book - it's not the next great novel - but if you are into the Gears of War lore, this bridges the gap between Gears 2 and 3 nicely.

Gran producto

Genius.
Where to start...? Okay, I'll just tackle each area individually.1) Narration. It's good. Outside the action scenes, it's tight and well thought-out. Inside the action scenes, it's fast-paced, even if it does have that problem where the action flows off the page at a slower pace than the reader imagines it happening.3) Characters. Working off a video game's story - and a video game where none of the major characters are ever given much room to grow, at that - it's about as good as it's reasonable to hope for. They're good. We, the readers, sympathise with them. There's a bit quite a way into the book where two characters have an argument, and oh my, even though it was a really serious moment, I couldn't stop smiling because the writer in me saw genius in every word, inside the dialogue and out. Speaking of which...4) Dialogue. It's basically flawless. Funny where it's called for, serious when it needs to be, gut-wrenchingly sad wherever Traviss thought the characters were having it easy (and even if every other aspect of the story sucked buffalo, the dialogue alone would earn it a three-star rating, in my book).5) Story. There is one. It's told from several different points-of-view, and in two different time periods - shortly before the Hammer of Dawn Counterattack, and immediately after the evacuation of Jacinto following that thing with the Lambent brumak. It's pretty good.So in short, if you like the series, buy the book. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to buy the other books in the series.
