An external wire antenna is the easiest way to improve the reception of any portable shortwave radio. For 7 bucks, these are a great value. The value comes from having a reel to contain the wire, really, because it is handy and neat. However, if you wished, you could get exactly the same reception boost by just soldering a couple of crocodile clips to a 7m length of wire and clip one end to a tree and the other end to your antenna. That costs under a dollar. But to keep things neat i like to use this reel instead. It's your choice, however, as the reception is the same. I love these, though.

Exceptional shortwave antenna brings in many fringe area stations works well improving FM reception as well. Really cleans up the signal!A fantastic value I definitely recommend!

There's nothing wrong with this reel antenna -- it's essentially identical to the dozens of others being sold here. The problem I encountered was with its length: it's long enough that it completely fills the little case, so it tends to tangle and become jammed when reeling it back in -- a "reel" nuisance. So I unwound it all the way, cut it from the center post where it was attached, lopped off about 8-10 feet, and reattached it. Now it can be wound back into its little case without jamming and it's still plenty long for shortwave reception.

Works very well..portable.

Use it on small pocket radios and several shortwave receivers definitely makes the difference in the area where I'm at will bring in a lot of stations that you didn't know they were available

Con esta simple antena se tiene mejor recepción. Y entre más extendida mucho mejor.
