This is the pirate literature I didn't even know I needed!
Dive into "Pirate Ghosts and Buried Treasure: Myths of the Southeast Coast" by Adam Marrow, and prepare for an extraordinary journey through the realms of pirate lore and history. This book isn't just another drop in the ocean of pirate narratives; it's a standout vessel, skillfully navigating the waters between historical fact and enthralling legend.Firstly, Marrow's approach to the subject is refreshingly honest and grounded. He acknowledges the influence of popular culture on our perception of pirates, particularly the impact of classics like "Treasure Island". This sets the stage for a book that respects historical accuracy while still indulging in the romanticism of pirate legends. Then there's the treatment of Captain Kidd's story – one of the few verifiable accounts of a pirate burying treasure. Marrow manages to present this historical fact not as a dry footnote but as a compelling narrative, preserving the intrigue and adventure that make pirate stories so appealing. Moreover, Marrow's acknowledgment of the mythical nature of many pirate tales, including the lack of hard evidence for some, doesn't detract from the allure of these stories. Instead, it adds depth, inviting readers to appreciate these tales as important cultural artifacts that capture the imagination. The book also sheds light on how coastal towns have embraced and promoted pirate folklore, often enhancing their tourist appeal. This perspective is fascinating, offering insight into how history and myth intertwine and influence local economies and identities. In essence, "Pirate Ghosts and Buried Treasure" is a masterful blend of fact and fiction, serving up a feast for both history buffs and fans of pirate mythology. Marrow's work is a shining example of how to weave together historical research with the captivating allure of legendary tales. It's a must-read for anyone enthralled by the mystique of pirates and their enduring legacy in popular culture.

Arrr, Pirate Folklore & More!
I have personally followed Captain Marrow for several years on his online Facebook account 'Shipwrecked With Captain Marrow' for general pirate life, tales and history, and personally call him friend. Now they are all here in this book of Pirate Folklore. It's well written and I recommend this book for all tales of lore of the Golden Age of Piracy as I have been a reenactor for 12+ years and still learning something new every day. This is great for all the enthusiasts out there for factual accounts, thrilling tales, spirits and tragedies of the Pirates of the Coast. Of course my favorite chapters are those of the East Coast stomping grounds. I found a lot of the stories fascinating, fast-paced and the resources helpful.Kudos to you Adam & Ava on a job well done! Really great reading! Huzzah!! 🏴☠️— Madbones Marie (Feast of the Pirates) ☠️

Varied and well-researched
I recently became interested in pirate history a few months ago and being from Charleston, I knew there was a local historian scene, where I found Captain Marrow. I enjoyed his daily Facebook posts and was stoked to find out that he was publishing a book soon. Fortunately, I was able to attend a book signing event and well, I have to say: this does not disappoint! Captain Marrow's love of both pirate history and folklore jumps out from the page and it's so obvious that he searched every nook and cranny, from traditional books to newspapers to podcasts, to uncover as many tales as possible. Not only that, but he even goes further than simply collecting stories and provides his own commentary and insight, whilst putting his sources directly under each story rather than burying them and forcing the reader to find them with a map. This is a great read and easy pick up for hobbyist and professional historians alike!

Great historical accounting
As a history buff, I found Adams account both insightful and informative. I love the history of the Southern East Coast Pirates having moved here from the NE 23years ago. I look forward to his next edition of the NE Pirates as I am from Upstate NY and was very much aware of the battles between locals and those fighting in the Revolutionary War and possible Pirate attacks on the new inhabitants of the land. Adam has done wonderful research and Ava has provided great proofreading of the story. Best of luck in the new adventures and in keeping the Spirit of the Pirate alive! Rita

Rushed production?
Not finished yet and might come back to do a more thorough review but the book is missing the 1st page...it starts in the middle of a sentence. And the binding is all wonky. Some text goes almost all the way to the edge...some has a huge gap. Just seems like rushed production. It would help if he included footnotes and references, and again I'm not that far in he's just spent the last 40 pages apologizing.
