It works as anticipated
I have access to commercial grade gas detectors as part of my work and also can use the test/calibration bench whenever I need to. This made it easy for me to do a set of quick tests to evaluate the effectiveness of the meter.I put the meter in a bench clamp, set up the delivery tube from the gas supply manifold to deliver gas over the sensor then turned the detector on. We have several concentrations of CO available, so I started with the lowest, 20 parts per million (PPM). As excepted, the detector started showing the gas and the numbers on the display climbed to 20 fairly quickly. FYI, that's twice the trigger point for commercial respiratory monitors used in the USA. Next, I went to the 90PPM gas. When the concentration hit 51PPM, the alarm sounded. It was nowhere near as loud a commercial unit, but it is loud enough to make itself known. That said, if this unit was on the other side of the room instead of on the bedstand next to my head, I might not hear it and wake up when sleeping. As a side note, the unit did display a concentration of 92PPM after a short period. So, my opinion is this is a reasonably nice personal CO detector that gives a person a fairly accurate reading. That said. I'd like to see the trigger point set lower since at 50PPM you are already experiencing the start of CO intoxication. I'm not sure I'd use this as a main line of defense in an area I suspect have high CO concentrations, but it is a very handy device to use to check concentrations when you're going down into an unventilated area, like a basement, to make sure the air is breathable.

Small, portable and easy
GRAY RHINO Carbon Monoxide Detectors Portable -- English portion of in instructions are grammatically correct and logical. Don't forget to remove the plastic packaging from the preinstalled batteries. That little tidbit is not in the instructions. I bought this mostly for the travel trailer and when I'm using a propane heater or stove in a small area. Only appliance I have working right now is the home gas water heater. Nothing registered on the alarm around that. I took it into a small bath area and lit a match. Held the alarm within a few inches of the burning match and after about ten seconds it did alarm. So it works. I'm not so sure about the alarm volume which does not have an adjustment. I sleep soundly and I'm not sure it would wake me up if it were near me and definitely would not if it were in another room. I also do not like that the instructions say in the event of low batteries, the indicator only alarms for 5 minutes then automatically shuts the device off. If I'm not nearby when that sounds, I won't know the device is not working. Those two reasons are why I gave it only 4 stars.

Easy to use but the alarm is not loud enough
I have a plug-in carbon monoxide detector in my home and I bought this one primarily for use while traveling. It’s also nice to have as a backup at home in case there’s a power outage and my other carbon monoxide detector isn’t able to function. It’s easy to use but you do have to remove the seal from the batteries that come already installed in the compartment in the back before using it.

Easy to carry, seems reasonable
PRO: I found it comes with a spare set of batteries and a manual printed in multiple languages with a diagram. Also it is light, easy to set up and looks nice.CON: While it says an error light will come on if the gas detector doesn't work, there is no test button and I was never able to get it to say anything other than 0 PPM which makes me wary as to whether the detection part of it actually works or merely pretends to. As such I can't in good conscience give it more than a 3.

it's small, it's loud enough, it works
This CO detector can sense carbon monoxide such as that you've heard in the news that caused the death of tourists in international hotels. I've never given it a thought before hearing about it on the news, but as an international traveler this seems well worth the money to bring along for peace of mind as I do stay in a lot of affordable hotels, in other words less than 4 and 5 star hotels though any hotel could unknowingly have a gas leak. I tested this, as have others, with a match and quickly saw the numbers increasing until the alarm sounded at > 50 ppm, though unlike some others I'd say the alarm is sufficient to wake me up. It sounds similar to that of an alarm clock set on a lower volume which I usually use because I'm a light sleeper. In fact I'd have no trouble hearing this go off in the next room, but then why wouldn't you just use this right next to your bed if your goal is to hear an alarm that may prevent you from dying? So I see no reason to give this less than 5 stars. I especially love that it came with preinstalled batteries (remove the plastic from them) in addition to an extra pair! It's small enough to pack for any trip, and you bet this is now on my packing list to go on every future trip. Not to mention I can use it to spot check the basement now & then for any problems near the furnace, etc.

Travel carbon monoxide detector
The GRAY RHINO portable carbon monoxide detector is a nice safety tool to have when you travel. The detector is very easy to use and came with two pairs of AAA batteries (used two AAA batteries so a spare set of batteries were included). It is basically a plug and play tool, just insert the batteries and long press to turn it on. There are only two other buttons on it which are to turn the display brighter or dimmer to your preference.I tested this detector with a candle, and it worked perfectly. Once the detector picked up the high levels of CO from the candle it emitted an alarm and the display flashed red, showing the readings detected. Once I pulled the detector away from the candle the alarm stopped, and the CO levels shown started dropping. I also tested it on a car exhaust with similar results. As mentioned, this is a great tool to travel with for safety. I suppose you can always pack a regular plug in CO detector to take along, but this portable unit is a lot easier to pack and take with you. Also, in the event of a power outage this battery-operated CO detector still works and gives you some peace of mind. The price seems reasonable as well.
