Works well with my 60 watt soldering iron
I put this on 5 and my soldering iron is now under control

Very handy
My trusty Weller has gone strong for a long time but the little station with the temperatures stopped working quite a while ago . This is a great solution and works well to keep the heat where you want it. It's also nice to be able to turn it off but leave it plugged into the wall still.

Perfect for older Ungar/Weller irons.
I have an older Ungar soldering iron that while it makes soldering quick, the high temperature at the tip burns up expensive tips. This temperature control allows me to turn down the temperature between soldering things together, preserving the tips and ultimately, the iron element. Worth it by eliminating time spent locating these somewhat hard to find tips.

Gets the job done
I use this for ski and snowboard base repair in combination with a soldering iron. Works great, not super sure if regulation is consistent or not but i dont own a laser thermometer to verify. Seems to hold things steady for what im doing.Only thing that would make it better are features that come with higher end products

works, but AC outlet incorrectly wired
As mentioned by another reviewer, the polarity of the controller's outlet is reversed. I only checked because of reading that review. Reality is that most soldering irons are ungrounded 2 prong plugs, so this probably doesn't matter much. But since my soldering iron was handy, I went ahead and fixed it. Just reversed the 2 white wires and all good. Literally a 5 minute fix.Other than that, the controller basically works. Since it is a simple rheostat, not a temperature controller, finding the sweet spot is kind of tricky. The temp at the tip of your iron will fluctuate depending on ambient conditions, how much time passes between each joint and even what material you are soldering (lead, copper, zinc). A true temp controller would constantly monitor the temp at the tip the iron and vary the supplied voltage to maintain a set temperature.Overall, the product is adequate, I knew what I was purchasing. The low rating is due to the fact that someone manufacturing and selling an electronic device should at least understand something as basic (and potentially dangerous) as AC polarity.

A MUST for Soldering Jewelry!
I purchased this product because I was having difficulties in maintaining a consistent heat on my soldering irons. Heat consistency is a must when soldering glass jewelry designs; failure to do so makes the solder look (and feel) rough and uneven. This rheostat works like a charm! My only regret is that I didn't purchase it sooner. It has made a huge difference in the quality of my soldered jewelry designs. It also saves me time because I get a near perfect result the first time around without having to redo my work. It is a great addition to my tool collection! Highly recommend!

It doesn’t have precise settings. You have have a temperature reader to know what the temperature is
Try to get a precise temperature for my branding
