Simple but high quality pen
Nice pen. Lovely to write with. I have the fine version, which to me (relatively small hand writing) feels more like a medium. I would go super fine next time, although this is perfectly usable, and i haven't actually tested the super fine to contrast.Nice grip with flats, ergonomic. Handy window to see ink levels. Good cap with nice strong clip. Well thought through design, manufactured well. After finishing the included disposable cartridge, I opted for the refillable cartridge (it's a neat little product) and a bottle of Lamy blue-black ink. Should keep me going for about a century based on the amount of writing I do now...

very nice to write with.
I started with a Lamy medium nib pen and then went on to buy this fine nib version. As with the medium nib, this fine nib pen feels good in the hand, being thicker to hold compared to a normal pen, the nib does not require much pressure and the ink flows very well. I received a Mont Blanc as a gift but was always worried about losing it as it is expensive, and it rekindled my love of writing with a fountain pen. The other thing that is very attractive with this pen is the fact you use a converter and regular ink that comes in a glass bottle, if you want to use a different colour compared to what is available in the cartridge lineup, that being said Lamy does offer a large range of colours in cartridge format.

Good, fluid fountain pen - at a reasonable price
All Lamy pens are alike: they write wonderfully fluidly. This is no exception. The eye-popping red is wonderfully kitsch for a fountain pen (others prefer dreary gold and black ghosts of the past), and I enjoy using it. The price is reasonable, albeit - as part of the 'Safari' range - the pen is plastic, and - for approximately £5 more - an aluminium Lamy can be bought as part of their 'AL Star' series, which substantially feels better in the hand. Nonetheless, this is a fun pen, that performs fluidly with an elegance the German manufacturer Lamy is known for. NOTE: This would make an ideal gift for a student!

Highly recommended
I'm a big fan of Lamys and I recommend the safari range as the best compromise between price and quality. Remember that you can also buy the nibs separately (in fine and medium) and also that you can buy a left-handed nib. I bought this red one, with some red cartridges, and even though I sometimes go days between uses, it always writes first time.I would definitely recommend this product and I wish I had known about Lamys when I was at Prep School (quite a few decades ago). Don't be tempted to buy the more expensive Safari range - the parts that matter are the same - not unless you like the feel of the extra weight.

Give yourself a chance to get used to it!
I'll be honest, straight out of the packet I didn't like this pen. A few months of use later and it's probably the best fountain pen I've ever used and the one I reach for for almost everything I need to write down.Initially I struggled with the unique 'rounded triangle' shape of the grip section. This was likely because of the way I was used to holding traditional round pens and it took time to adjust to the Lamy. Now that I have (and you can too if you don't like it to start with) it's the smoothest and most comfortable pen I've used, even when using for long periods of time. The 'fine' nib isn't really that fine, but it's certainly not clumsy and writes incredibly smoothly with no breaks in flow when writing quickly. After I got used to it I actually liked this pen so much I got another blue one for carrying around with me all the time and at work.Construction wise it's totally solid, the clip is a bit of a beast and would need a crowbar to break, the little window for viewing the ink level is a great touch and the screw mechanism locks securely in place - something my previous Parker pens have never managed to achieve.I'd encourage you to try this pen and stick with it a while if you find it a bit weird to start with, I did and it's a little gem!

So so
I found it very nice to look at. This is not matt like some Lamy pens, but it feels very grippy. However I found the ink sometimes stop flowing, and it's not terribly consistent. Also the grip is very opinionated, and it may be for the best, but I found it uncomfortable in the long run.

Surprisingly good
Sitting at the cheap end of the Lamy range, I didn't know what to expect, but it's really good to use. The triangle grip may or may not suit you, so be mindful of that, but the rest of it looks and feels well put together. The nib is great - a noticeable amount of "tooth", and a very consistent performance over a range of angles.

Fine nib is the same as medium nib, don't see see any difference
Bought this as wanted finer lines than I had from the other Safary I have with a medium nib. To my disappointment absolutely no difference. I actually think the M marked nib produces slightly narrower lines.Another point - as the pen is white, it gets very easily marked with ink residue.overall a bit disappointed, but of course good value for money.
