The Travelers Guide to the Geology of Costa Rica Paperback – 9 August 2021

This is quite a comprehensive overview of the geological features and history of mainland Costa Rica. It would make a very good text for a multi-week geology/vulcanology/tectonic tour for an undergrad or grad course.Should there arise the opportunity to publish a newer edition, I have a few comments that do not reduce my rating:1. Change the script to Times New Roman or other that is more easily readable for long reads.2. A few text edits would be in order. There are at least two instances of entire paragraphs being repeated within a few lines.3. It would be nice if the maps were able to be rendered with better contrast; somewhat larger would be good, too. In a new edition, I'd recommend a fold-out map with the geologic features labeled so that one can see the overall patterns of features mentioned in the text.4. While this is a titled 'Travelers Guide' I would have enjoyed a few paragraphs about Cocos Island.This is a book delightful to find and enjoy. Books like this do not happen very often. I say again, it would be a great basis for a January Plan class for college/uni geology/vulcanology students.

A perfect guide for the casual explorer interested in the natural history of Costa Rica and how the geologic processes have shaped the landscape, this book is well-researched, well-written, and organized such that one could easily plan their own sightseeing trip across the country.
