Cold Steel2pc Big Bore .625 Magnum 5-Foot Blowgun

As a five foot blowgun, it's very nice. Really easy to learn to use, and accurate as you are. The darts that come with it aren't what you're really after, so my review of them isn't part of the 5 stars. As a special note, you can use 1/2 of this as a blowgun, though you loose some velocity.The darts:The main dart you're going to want to use for actual hunting with this is the mini broad head, and you get a dozen of them. The quiver is designed to hold one dozen. Personally, I bought another 50 from coldsteel, because anything this small is bound to get lost over time. These are well designed and highly functional.The next hunting style dart you might actually use is the bamboo dart. hese are for the rare occasion that you actually find a practicle poison to use, and want it to adhear to the dart better. Finding that poison when you're not part of tribe in south america depending on these for survival could be tricky, and I'm personally reccommending you never try it out, because legally that sounds better.The broadhead darts I got were warped and kind of inneffective. The just have a poor design, a large ball right behind the broad blade head. I tried some reshaping on them, but compared to the minibroadhead, they seem pathetic.Finally the stun darts. These work really well, but all of them were a little oversized for the blowgun. A little sanding took care of that, but to much snading is bad as well. The effect of the stundart is like a hard punch. If you were trying to use the blowgun as a non-leathal human deterrant, this is the head you'd use.Practicle use of this item as a walking stick that can take down small game is probably the typical amazon purchasers needs, so for target practice, I'm suggesting a small stuffed animal of the types you'd be willing to eat. The minibroadheads can puncture a stuffed animal without leaving much damage, so can be used over and over.Unfortunatly, the mini broadheads aren't available for purchase seperatly for amazon at this time. Hopefully that changes, but you can get them from coldsteel directly. Comes in a 50 pack.

This thing is so much fun! I'm betting that I could hunt with it if I had to, but for now it's just a good walking stick and toy. You can't go wrong with this blowgun. It's solid, accurate, light and affordable. The only ammo I really like, though, is those long, skinny darts. They really travel well and straight, and they certainly stick to whatever they hit.Update. Had trouble finding more darts--sold out everywhere--so I started making my own. Have had very good luck building darts out of the skinny 9" aluminum knitting needles. I get them at second-hand stores for cheap, flatten and sharpen the end, add a 5/8" foam ear plug (the kind you can get on a card at a grocery store) and melt a hole in it, slide on, and touch with super glue so it stays put. These fly true and hit hard. I'm Sure I could hunt with them. (:

First off I have to say the construction on this is far better than any other I have seen. I would never dream of using some of the blowguns I've owned in the past as a walking stick for fear they would just collapse. This is a thick walled pipe that would be right at home on the trail. The sections are connected by a threaded well machined collar with an inch and a half thread on each pipe making for a very solid connection, not just a foam tube that the pipes slide in to like some of the cheaper models.The only issue I had is with the number and kind of darts mine was shipped with. I received 15 bamboo darts 12 mini broad heads and 6 stunner darts. It's really not that big of a deal but it isn't exactly what I ordered.On a side note I do like the fact there are more bamboo darts because these are made from standard bamboo skewers available from restaurant supply places, meaning as long as you retrieve the cones you have an unlimited supply of cheap ammo.Very nice piece, I highly recommend it.

This blowgun is a lot of fun, and everything that comes with it is very inexpensive. I bought it with the intention of taking care of pesky squirrels who tell on me while I'm hunting from a tree stand or a blind. Much quieter than a BB gun. Also a lot of fun to target shoot with. I really like the quiver, and started getting better shots when I moved it down the shaft a little further from the mouth piece.Only gripe with this purchase was, it came with no hunting broadheads as advertised, and instead came with the other darts mentioned and a big heap of bamboo darts. Also, there were only ten (not twelve) orange cones that fit the mini-broadheads, which have a narrower gague fitting hole than the bamboo cones.

This blowgun feels sturdier than I expected. I'm impressed. The threads are very fine and go together well and hold very securely. The outer sleeve gives it additional strength at the joint.I do with they would've reamed the insides of the pipes at the ends. If you feel with your finger just on the inside, you can feel a slight burr. I removed this with a piece of round Craytex, but you can use a small, half-round or round file as well.Also I would've liked another quiver with this unit, or at least a way to get another one. The only other one I see on Amazon is for the professional model and won't even fit this one. I don't suppose it's THAT important, though.As for actually shooting this thing, it's really impressive. It really buries the darts into whatever you're shooting at. Accurate, too!I've heard a few people say you have to have lots of lung power to shoot this thing. Maybe so if you're a child. But any grown man should not even notice the effort it takes. Just take a good breath, put your mouth up to the mouthpiece, aim, and go, "Ptooey!" as hard as you can. See? I told you you could do it. :)But yeah, anyway, get this one. It's portable, screws together tightly, and will not hesitate to get the small game, should the need arise.
