Bandolero! [DVD] [1968]

All very good great service delivered on time

This is a great Western, excellent storyline thoroughly recommended.

Not bad never seen Dean martin sober in a movie before this one.

To try and be clear, this review is for the DVD with "Studio Classics" across the top of the coverand mainly orange background with poor images of the 3 stars - Stewart on top then Martin then Welch. Why go to so much trouble? Amazon do tend to place all reviews for different DVDs all together. This one is a superb transfer. Filmed in Panavision it has bars top and bottom, excellent clear picture and colour showing off the spectacular locations. Plus fair subtitles. I wish I could be more enthusiastic about the film itself. I like McGlaglen's work, mostly. This, for me, wasn't his best. The first 40 minutes or so are classic western action, but when the the "chase" starts it almost inevitably loses pace, and endless talk round campfires take the place of action. This is not to say these scenes aren't interspersed with dome violence, but not much. The climax is bloody and frankly rather ridiculous. I won't say why as that would be a spoiler. Of course it's not all bad. Raquel is immaculate throughout the dusty journey. Martin and Stewart do exactly what is expected of them, and George Kennedy and Will Geer steal the show. Sadly this was almost Jock Mahoney's last film, and his part is negligable. Pity. Don Barry, Harry Carey Jnr and Denver Pyle lend western character gravitas to their parts. Not a bad film, just didn't ring all my bells. Others here seem to love it, so, you makes your choice.

A film worth watching

Saw this western as a 10 year old kid and was blown away by it. One of the first films I saw in which bad guys turned out not quite that bad after all. As the story progresses I felt more sympathetic to the brothers. It wasn't hard to like the brother played by James Stewart. Who would not come to help his brother, no matter what he has done. But as I got deeper and deeper into the story I could understand the other brother's (played by Dean Martin) motives as well. I'm glad it's available on DVD, so I could pick it up. Going to watch it with my sons, just like my parents watched it with me and my brother!

Have always admired James Stewart and Dean Martin. An unlikely pair but through the story not a run of the mill western, but complimated each other well. Really enjoyed this western.

Enjoyable old fashioned western, love seeing those great cowboy actors Jimmy ah ah Stewart especially.

Ein Bestbesetzter und fabelhafter Westernfilm aus dem Jahre 1968 die man unbedingt kaufen und besitzen müsste. Eine Handvoll Ganoven die gerade eine Bank in Val Verde ( New Mexico ) überfallen haben sind verhaftet worden und befinden sich im Gefängniss dort. Das einzige Problem, es sind Todesopfer zu beklagen die auf das Konto dieser Räuber Bande geht. Die Banditen sind zum Tode am Strick verurteilt worden und werden noch in der selben Woche gehängt. Doch die Bande hat Glück, denn durch ein Zufall erfährt der Bruder des Banden Führers Mace Bishop ( James Stewart ) das sein Bruder ( Dean Martin ) und seine Kumpanen gehängt werden sollen. Mace Bishop ( James Stewart ) geht in die Stadt Val Verde als Henker verkleidet wo sein Bruder Dee Bishop ( Dean Martin ) gehenkt werden soll und befreit seinen Bruder und seine Bande. Doch der Sheriff ( George Kennedy ) der Hartnäckig ist will diese Bande unbedingt hängen sehen und nimmt die Verfolgung auf. Die Bande schafft es auch über die Grenze über den Rio Grande nach Mexico zu fliehen und fühlt sich bereits in Sicherheit was sie eigentlich auch währe, der Sheriff verfolgt sie aber auch da, mit der Hoffnung die Bande wieder zurück in die Vereinigten Staaten zu bringen um sie dort zu hängen. Doch Dee Bishop ( Dean Martin ), als auch der Sheriff ( George Kennedy ) sollten es mit etwas zu tun bekommen haben das sie nicht in ihre kühnsten träumen vorgestellt hätten!Denn in Mexico das sie geflohen sind entpuppt sich als ein kleines Problem, denn das ganze gebiet in Mexico das sie sich gerade befinden ist gebiet der Mexikanischen Terror Bande Bandolero, die dort regelrecht Terror macht, Menschen überfällt und Amerikaner grundsätzlich abschlachtet. Selbst die Mexikanischen Soldaten wagen sich nicht in das gebiet der Bandolero vor, weil es sehr gefährlich ist. Also hat die Bishop Bande und der Sheriff ein mächtiges Problem denn die Bandolero haben diese sogenannten Eindringlinge bereits ausgespäht und weit in ihr Territorium herein Reiten lassen, um sie brutal zu ermorden. Auch der Sheriff wird nicht verschont der jetzt vom Jäger zum gejagten geworden ist. Die Banditen und der Sheriff müssen sich jetzt auf jeden fall was einfallen lassen, denn sie haben ein mächtiges Problem! Die Banditen und der Sheriff müssen jetzt über sich hinauswachsen und vereint gemeinsam kämpfen, denn die Bandoleros kann man nicht einfach so ausschalten.Wie die Geschichte weiter geht findet ihr heraus wenn ihr die DVD gekauft habt. Bereuen werdet ihr es auf gar keinen fall, denn dieser Film ist ein Fabelhafter Western Film den man haben muss. Dieser Film hat Action, Spannung und Brutalität. Alles was man von einem guten Film erwartet. Also haltet euch ran, gleich kaufen!!
