The 7 Experiment - Bible Study Book: Staging Your Own Mutiny Against Excess

An in-the-trenches fasting study
A really great experience. Opened my eyes to the excesses in my life, and how I can refocus and help the world more. You do need to go into this knowing that it is a 7-week series of weekly fasts. You are asked to give up your comforts in a different area each week. Make sure your fellow participants are aware of this, and prepared for a study that will take a big commitment in time and self-control each week. We had several participants drop out after the first week, deciding they didn't have the time and focus right now do do this adequately. But those of us who continued found it an experience that really paid off and made us aware of the world and our place in it in a new way.

A book that shows us how to put in to action the truths of scripture/
Jen Hatmaker's way of writing makes me laugh (not just a little giggle....but laugh hard). cry, think, want to change, draws me in to scripture, gives me a new view of Jesus and how He wants us to live, and has helped me make changes in my life to bring me closer to God. I laughed hysterically and cried in the same paragraph? I hate to just say "a good read" because when we just read a book that inspires us and do nothing about it, then we have just read...so I encourage you to read this and then find what you can do personally to utilize the truths that Jen helps us find in scripture.

right on
Jen Hatmaker and her husband dared to call a spade a spade. The Lord led them out of a situation where the well-to-do were stroking the well-to-do in church. They are radically following Jesus to the best of their understanding. They are finding ways to extract their lifestyles from practices that are wasteful and that crush the poor. The book is not judgmental. One sees what one can do in many areas to be less wasteful, just like the Hatmakers did. But there is no negative pressure from the book. It has really got me thinking and I see many changes I can make.

Thought provoking-recommend
I like the concept of the book. Some parts are unrealistic for everyone to carry through, although it still makes you stop and think. I recommend everyone read this because just like anything, you can evaluate it based on your values and beliefs and very well glean valuable information from it.

Thought Provoking
My wife just completed this study with a group of her friends. She said it's rich and thought provoking. A paradigm shift of the mindset. Great study on drawing closer to God and being content with less.

Makes you Think
This is a very thought provoking Bible study. I had originally read it in book form and when the Bible study came out, my group decided to take it on. For seven weeks, you fast, in some form from such things as food, clothing, media, etc. It really makes you stop and think about your lifestyle and how people in third world countries live. It helps you focus on what is really important in life instead of focusing on stuff. Highly recommended.
