Ultimate foot controller
This is the world's most advanced midi-foot controller, with five selector pedals, up and down bank pedals, a pair of control pedals, and two expression pedals, both of which can be configured to also have stomp-style top switches, like those great distortion-wah pedals of thirty years ago. As well as connection via 5-pin midi, it also has the new Roland standard Cat-5 ethernet plug connectors, which go into the back of a Roland VG-99 or other high end effects. Using the ethernet plug connector, the display shows the actual names of patches programmed on your external unit, which means you can tuck your complex bit of kit round the back behind the amplifiers where it won't get damaged, and just use this. Even better, it gets its power from the VG-99, so you neither need the batteries (supplied) nor the external power adapter (not supplied). There's really nothing to fault this unit, which is heavy and rugged, as it ought to be, with a good solid feel to all the pedals and smooth tracking on the expression pedals. If you really want to, you can plug a further collection of extension pedal controllers into it. It functions in sys-ex, cc or bank mode (as you would expect and require), and also has onboard finger buttons for Write, Utility, Exit, Mode, Value and Parameter. Interestingly, it also has two external outputs for amp control, so that you can use it for your Peavey, Mesa-Boogie, Marshall or whatever. This is a unit designed for on-stage use. Find a good bag for it, though, otherwise it will eventually destroy other things that you own, being largely metal in construction.Roland have been at the top of the tree for high-end effects and synthesisers since the 1980s. Most guitarists will be familiar with their sub-brand Boss, which has been a leader in guitar stomp-boxes throughout that time, and branched out from the 1990s into pedal-board multi-effects. Roland-branded guitar units have always been the pinnacle of the company's art. The great guitar synths, including the classic GR-300 and strangely shaped GR-707 were innovative but ultimately misguided, but Roland struck gold when they invented guitar modelling with the VG-8. Both the VG-8 and its successor the VG-88 had a built in pedal board, but the VG-99 was designed to be used with this unit. Separating the two comes to about the same total price as the VG-88 (after inflation), but it does mean that you can choose whether to hump the weight of the pedals. It also means that the pedal board is more extensive, with an extra expression pedal and an extra control pedal, and two more stomp-types on the ends of the expression pedals. This is the best pedal extension I've ever owned, and also the most expensive. I've got an older Roland one which is less advanced, less robust, and requires separate batteries. I've also tried Behringer Midi Foot Controller which is, in every way, nowhere near as good, despite being rather larger.Whether or not you are going to use a VG-99, I would recommend this pedal board above all others, even at a price which puts it above Zoom and Behringer boards which actually have effects on them (in case you're confused, this is a controller board -- all the effects are on whatever it is controlling). It's flexible enough for virtually any application, and built to a quality standard which just shouts at you "you get what you pay for".

Fabulous Foot Controller - Perfect for the Road.
This is a superb product - robust and versatile. It allows to go do some amazing things with the rack mounted effects unit. Only minor draw back is that you do need a basic knowledge of MIDI to use it properly, and a fairly in depth knowledge to get the best out of it. Great piece of kit though; really pleased I bought it.

...and you try getting spare parts from Roland!
its nice build and easy programming aren't going to make up for not being able to replace the potentiometers.they're made by Alps but are not off-the-shelf components. all the pots in the same Alps range are rated with a life of 15,000 cycles.when you start fading and wahing you'll wear them out in a couple of year or so.and then you'll be somewhat stuffed. you'll have to find a decent service engineer. and all the decent ones have long waiting lists. post it off and pay through the nose for what is an easy component swap.of note: extended warranties from the likes of Thomann don't include potentiometers. pots are viewed as disposable. rightly so. and because of this any manufacturer putting them in expensive kit should make sure they are easily replaceable.

The best MIDI foot controller bar none
The best MIDI foot controller bar none. Very well built, very well featured and also very ergonomic. Looks cool too!I moved to this after a pretty terrible time with the cheaper Behringer FCB1010 which I found to be annoying more than helpful, that pedal has midi issues, build issues and needs you to fit a new eprom chip just to get it working as you'd expect (for better control of virtual stomp boxes). The FC300 on the other hand just works out of the box (use CC mode for controlling software like Amplitube or Revalver). You can set it up in minutes with your chosen amp software and it just works. Also the build is much better than the Behringer, the EXP pedals are super-solid and very pro feeling, the switches are very responsive but 'light' to the foot-touch - perfect! Also the width is just within my limit of tolerance, the Behringer was a bit too wide and a bit too flat (ugly in other words) while the FC300 looks very good/pro and is solid all round.Save yourself the hassle and time wasting with the 'cheap' gear, grab an FC300 and get back to music asap! :)
