simple kindness and humor
I used these as readers for my late 1st grader/early 2nd grader. I love how many series Cynthia Rylant has done on different reading levels, and Mr. Putter and Tabby were as fun as the others we have used. I have found that my children learn to read better when they love the characters, and they always love Cynthia Rylant's characters. In these books, the characters are cautious Mr. Putter, his very sanguine neighbor Mrs. Teaberry, and their pets, which suit them each perfectly. Each story is gentle and fun. Mr. Putter grits his teeth and goes with Mrs. Teaberry's newest wild scheme, her dog Zeke is crazy, his cat Tabby wants to rest, and Mrs. Teaberry bakes him wonderful goodies. They are kind to each other, and he reminisces about boyhood days... really sweet stories. My son told me when we were going through all of these that reading was his favorite time of day.If you haven't delved into Cynthia Rylant's many series for many reading levels, you can do a google search to figure out which one might work best for where your child's skill level is.

Best early readers EVER!!
My little girl and I (she’s 8 now) absolutely adore these books! She has had a tough time learning to read, so we started getting her these types of books to help her, and we just adore the Mr. Putter books!! Tabby is funny and adorable, and whoever does the illustrations is just wonderful too. I love the old-fashioned feel to the stories, reminds me of my own childhood. The fact that they have chapters is lovely as well, these books help us feel like we are making progress. Absolutely wonderful, nothing not to love about this series!

Favorite Mr. Putter Book yet
This is the sweetest story in the Mr. Putter and Tabby tales- with Mr. Putter remembering his childhood, walking through the neighborhood, connecting with friends and beautiful pictures too! The night scenes are especially striking.

Good book for young readers
This is a great book for young readers. My child is in 2nd Grade. This was the "book of the week" earlier this year. I decided to buy a copy to have at home. It's a nice story.

Another gem...
My 6-year-old daughter loves the Mr. Putter and Tabby books... They're so colorful and humorous... There's nothing like a child being encouraged to read because the content of the book is so entertaining! We have several in the series and are so happy with being able to have a fun collection from which she can pick and choose for any occasion. After a while, Mr. Putter, Tabby, Mrs. Teaberry and Zeke all start to feel like family :)

Great books!
Cynthia Rylant has created two of the most charming old characters in young children's literature! As an educator, I appreciate the crafting of these books: the language is interesting, the vocabulary rich, and the stories have both humor and substance to them. They are not just fluff, and the children who read them know it. My own son loved all of the Mr. Putter and Tabby books, and we now give them as gifts to our young friends. I highly recommend any and all of them (though my favorites are Mr. Putter and Tabby Pour the Tea, and Pick the Pears).

Awesome Book
My 7 year children absolutely love Mr. Putter books. There’s a lot of laughter when they are reading. I would definitely recommend these books to new readers that want to get started in chapter books and readers that are not interested in super hero books.

Great books for your beginner reader (these were a hit with 1st graders!). The entire Mr. Putter and Tabby series is very cute and we have almost all of them. They are easy to read and have a good story line in each book. If you are stepping up from stories to chapter books these are a great transition.
