Great product
This infrared heater works great and heats up very quickly. The heat feels comfortable and direct without making the whole room stuffy. It was easy to install and seems well built. I mounted it in my workspace and it keeps the area warm even on colder days. Very satisfied with the performance and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for an efficient infrared heater.

A Problem Free Outdoor Heater
Most people will want to buy this to heat their patio or deck. It mounts to the wall but also could be used on a stand if desired. To be clear, I did not buy 2 of these to heat a patio or deck but to heat 2 outdoor kennels for my German Shepherd Dogs, which I keep outside until it is time for bed when I bring them in the house. Regardless of the brand, no heater of this type is going to work that well whether mounted on a wall or self standing in an open area if it is windy. That is just the way it is. If you have a partially enclosed space which blocks the wind, you will do just fine. Now, the 2 kennels I have are open on all four sides but I have from fall to spring installed wind screens around all four sides of the kennels which are 10 ft x 10ft rectangles and 8 ft high. I have hung the heaters from the ceiling posts of the kennels and they work really well. Very easy to assemble. I have wall mounted heaters (different brand) on my deck and I can tell you that these would mount much easier than the ones I put on my deck. Piece of cake really. The package includes all of the hardware you need. I could mount these on a wall in less than 5 minutes. It took me less than that to hang them from the ceiling of the kennels. What about the remote? It works flawlessly and for my money it is essential, not just a convenience. I do not want to walk up to the heater and to turn it on or off if I do not have to. You can do it of course, but hitting the remote is far more convenient. It is easy to operate, self intuitive. You do not need instructions to operate it. As for heat, it has three levels. Level 1 is 900 watts, level 2 is 1200 watts and leverl 3 is 1500 watts. I find level 1 more than sufficient for temps in the 40s. I do not use it if 50 or above. (these are German Shepherd Dogs not people) That said, I am sure level one would be fine for the 50s for people. Level 2 I use for temps int he 30s. And Level 3 for the 20s and below. I have had the dogs out when the temperature was 5 degrees F and they did fine. Remember, these are infrared heaters, they heat objects not the air. So when the dogs stood or slept under the heaters, they were warm, despite the fact that air was quite cold. I warmly, no pun intended, recommend this product. It is first class in every respect.

Good heater.....BUT
I bought this to add some heat in my shed. When you turn it on the heat is there immediately. Keep in mind that this is direct heat and you need to be more or less directly under it to feel the heat. It will work well for it intended purpose. I am deducting 1 star for the mounting system, that is ridiculous and almost required me to grow a third hand to get it done. There was no template in the box as shown in the video. I will be buying a light hanging kit so I can hang and bring the heat down lower. This is my only complaint with this product.

This thing is great!
My garage is unheated and regular space heaters take hours to heat up the space so I can work, but this thing is amazing! Literally in seconds it heats up *me* and the area I'm working in. I mounted it to a stand so it can easily be moved around to wherever I'm working and am really really pleased with this product.

Doesn’t do the job
For an outdoor heater, this doesn’t really work well outdoors. You need to be right on top of it to feel much heat. I was reluctant to buy one of the standup propane heaters because the ceiling is a bit low and the porch is made of wood, but this unit just doesn’t cut it. It’s well made, installs easily and has held up well, but it just doesn’t produce enough heat. Better than nothing, I guess, but I wouldn’t call that a ringing endorsement.

Well Built
I am very impressed with this heater. I originally bought a different brand because Amazon could deliver it before our outdoor Covid-19 Thanksgiving meal. It arrived on time, but was dead on arrival. Could not get it to turn on and customer service never responded to email. Back it went! This heater arrived two days later in a very sturdy and padded box. I wish they had used something other than Styrofoam because that is not recyclable. The heater case is very stout and well put together. the mounting brackets are easy to use and they came with wall fasteners too. I like the three levels of heat, the timer and the display that tells you the heat level. My only gripe is that the remote is very flimsy. I had to hold the battery access door closed with black electrical tape. No batteries were provided either. (2- AAA) Reading reviews it is apparent that many users had unrealistic expectations for this heater. It is not designed to heat the air in the room. It uses infra-red to heat you only it you are standing in front of it. Works great for me in my workshop as I have it pointed at where I stand at my work bench. I am toasty as long as I stand there. Highly recommended!

Didn't last long!!
Doesn't last long!! Purchased in Jan. '24 and used until March, probably 20-40 minutes and two or three times a week to heat up an area in the pole building where I'm working. I wiped it down and stored it in a plastic bag during the warm months, then used it on a similar schedule/frequency in 2025 and then 2026. It's been well cared for and NOT used a lot. Now, in March '26, the tube has burned out and it no longer works. Disappointed that for this price it only lasted 9 months worth of use!!

Purchased this for our new covered patio. There are many wall mounted infrared heaters but this was the only one I found with 3 heat settings instead of only a single (on/off) or high/low settings. This was important for us because at max level (1500w) you basically can't run anything else on the same circuit without overloading. Having a low/mid power setting lets us run some other electronics without worrying about the breaker tripping. Installation was straightforward if you're somewhat handy and is comfortable with drilling. The included anchors are adequate but it might help to have your own that matches your wall material. Performance wise I actually didn't find there to be a huge difference between the settings. Running on max feels only slightly warmer but it likely depends on how far you're sitting from it. If you're more than 7-8 feet away or if it's not angled towards you it's not going to do much. It's no propane heater and the heat output is really just enough to keep a small zone around it tolerable on a chilly morning or evening, so don't be expect a miniature sun or anything. Overall it's a solid product and the build quality feels rugged. For heating a small patio area where 3-4 people are seated it's perfect. Anything larger would likely be better served by a propane heater.

Muy buen calentador. Vivo en una zona muy fría por lo cual me ha servido de maravilla para no tener que prender fuego en la chimenea diario. tarda en una habitación mediana como 30-40 minutos en calentar toda la habitación pero es muy útil.

As a garage dweller, winter sucks. Having tried just about every *other* type of heater, I finally invested in this Dr. Infrared DR-238. Having now used it for 4 quite cold days, so far I'm impressed. First, the obvious things: it's an infrared heater, i.e. it uses light you can't see to heat things. It will heat black things more than white things, will be reflected by shiny things, and if you disperse it too far, it heats less. It will only heat the surfaces the light hits, not the air itself, so if you face it forwards, your back will not be heated. Usual misconceptions abound, however the benefit is that it isn't trying to heat perpetually cold air/concrete and then expect that heat to reach you in a meaningful manner. Thus, you don't need to leave a heater like this on for hours at a time to heat up the air. And the heat is, as advertised, direct and instant. It warms me up plenty while I'm out in a cold night having a smoke or tinkering with something on my workbench. It is quite large, larger than I expected from looking at the pictures, but once it's up in the rafters it's not that bad, and is able to cover a very wide area (where I'm standing to take that picture gets plenty of warmth). So in terms of actual function, it gets a 5/5 from me. That said, I have a very tricky relationship with the heat level settings. For reasons that might be a "my old house's electrical sucks", a fault in my particular unit, or a design defect in general, L1 and L2 cause my LED T8 fixtures on the same circuit to strobe significantly. L2 is worse than L1, and the problem disappears completely at L3. I suspect there's some PWM shenanigans going on to get it to drop from its maximum power level, and it's "backflowing" onto the rest of the circuit, which is a pain. I'm docking 1/2 star for this as it kinda sketches me out; I would be eager to hear back from the manufacturer about this (I have emailed), but it doesn't *really* affect my usage of the unit since I intend to use it almost exclusively on L3. I did ask Dr Heater support about this but didn't get any meaningful answer either way. The mounting hardware was simple to put together, and while I had to get creative with the mounting in my particular space to get it to heat where I wanted, it turned out well. I wish it could go a little lower in angle (perhaps 35 degrees), but the manual is extremely adamant - and the brackets constructed such - that this isn't possible, so I'm stuck where it is. Would probably be nicer if I was able to mount it another foot or so back but alas, I can't, and I'm not entirely sure why it can't be mounted facing down if at a sufficient height. One complaint I have is with control, and relatedly, a question that was answered with faulty information and which influenced my purchase. A "seller" reported that, if the unit was put on a smart switch and disconnected from power, it would remember the last setting - i.e. auto power-on and go back to whatever heat level it was at. This is *NOT* the case! If the unit loses power, such as being shut off via a smart switch, you must use the IR remote to turn it on. This is my other docked 1/2 star. I get it, IR remotes are cheap, quick and easy. But *forcing* IR remotes is annoying. I get that this is a budget unit, but is a $0.05 4k NVM chip to retain state on power off really too much to ask when you've already built the control logic? I'd even prefer a switch and a knob version myself for "set it and forget it" operation with a smart switch, but alas it is what it is. All was not lost though, since as a tinkerer at heart who wanted this automated, I was able to achieve a working and safe setup by using both a smart switch (to ensure it is actually off when I tell it to turn off), and then an ESP8266 and an IR LED kit. The included IR remote is barebones and was easy to scan codes from (for reference, the decimal values are POWER_TOGGLE 33446055, UP 33472575, DOWN 33456255, TIMER_MODE 33480735, TEMPERATURE_MODE 33460335), so with just a quick bit of code and I was able to have a "switch" that rapidly fires the IR commands to turn it on and bump to L3 in under a second. Both the smart switch and ESP8266 IR controller are then hooked up to Home Assistant, which automates turning on both behind a single button (or complex presence detection automation, but that's beyond the scope of this review). Of course, most people would just be happy with the remote and wouldn't go to such crazy lengths for automation, so perhaps I'm being unfair in docking anything for all this, but I'm docking the rating mostly because this isn't clearly communicated anywhere in the description or manual and there is a wrong answer left up in the answered questions potentially influencing buyers like myself, and because implementing state-saving would likely be trivial. All in all, despite my complaints, it is a good unit and I'm happy with it. I'd definitely recommend this if you want infrared heat in a decently sized space.
