Still as good as it ever was
Tomita's interpretation of Debussy's music is beautifully sympathetic to the original, while applying electronic sound production instruments.I first heard this way back in 1974, used as backing music for a dance production by students at the Welsh College of Music and Drama. I immediately tracked down the music on a 12" LP (not easy in those pre-internet days looking for an imported Japanese item). It got played so many times, it literally wore out the record. Many other versions have been released since, but IMHO nobody beats Tomita. It's great to find it still available

Groundbreaking classic album
Listening to Tomita instantly transports me back to my student years in the late 70s. Many late nights/early mornings spent immersed in the futuristic sounds of Kraftwerk, Pink Floyd, Jean Michelle Jarre and of course Tomita. The music was truly ground breaking and awe inspiring. FFWD almost 50 years and the music still resonates. Parts now sound a bit creaky dated and almost gimmicky. The sound stage although having great clarity and spaciousness lacks the width and depth of modern recordings. Having made these observations the album still holds up- it soothes the soul and relaxes the mind. An important milestone in the development of electronic music.

Excellent CD
I stumbled onto this marvellous CD after a speculative purchase to make up to free delivery on a Christmas order. I remember liking the original as a kid in the late 70's, but hadn't thought or heard of it in years. Listening now makes you feel nostalgia, but for an optimistic future as imagined in the seventies and daresay still to be seen. The electronic sounds are so well chosen to suit the beautiful and thoughtful Debussy pieces. It is a million miles away from the dance-orientated take on electronic music that came later, in my view just a few groups like Stereolab took up the analogue mantle well. Pure escapism and highly recommended.

My Escape
Having slowly built a collection of Isao Tomita's creations (with thanks to Amazon) I can affirm that these are the jewels in my locker. The maxim that 'music takes over when words fail' is epitomised in this album. Snowflakes are Dancing takes me out of myself moreso than the others I have. My first experience of Tomita was on vinyl, being 'Space Walk'; hooked ever since and prone to depression, I find the works such a therapy that it cannot be readily described. He was ahead of his time but I feel that young people should be encouraged towards his work. It fascinated one grandson of mine, providing the key into a world of classical works which he may never have experienced. As to the therapeutic value, recently I've been diagnosed with a form of carcinoma. When I get 'up tight' I reach for the Tomita remedy - it works every time - total relaxation from having been taken to a different planet, just for a little while; a highly beneficial medicine.

A musical glass of fine wine
This album is very etherial and has a fluid sound, it seems mr Tomita is in love with the music and this comes across on many of the tracks, the girl with the flaxen hair is a good example, it just flows along like a stream. For those of you who have never heard this kind of music, I can say you need to be in the right mood to listen to it, this is where you shut your eyes and bliss out on the sound, one for a softly lite room and no other distractions. All in all a gentle smooth kind of experience.

Snowflakes are dancing
I have the original Vinyl L.P. of this piece and it is in very good original condition. That said though you can't play it anywhere else except at home on the proper equipment. So I purchased the CD. These are very difficult to obtain as the original recordings are long gone.Isao Tomita is a very clever man, all the orchestral tones are created with electronic synthesisers.I have other Classical L.P.'s by this man and cannot get hold of copies for use on CD players. If you like Electronic Music this is for you.

Excellent
This is a fabulous version of some classical music - very atmospheric. The music that Tomita has created in a synthesised sound is truly amazing and sophisticated, especially considering that I first heard it back in the 80s when this style was popular and still developing. Was pleased to be able to get a copy of this after all these years.

Over processed?
The music is sublime and seems well transferred from ancient tape to CD. But I suspect over use of noise reduction has robbed the production of much of it's life and vivacity which is a big shame. I have a similarly afflicted Abbey Rd re-master of the Faurè requiem and it's un-listenable compared with the previous classics for pleasure, un-noise reduced issue. Give me a bit of hiss any day!!
