For me personally they do need a cusioning insole
Grip, weight and waterproofing are all great. If I only ran trails the cushioning might be adequate; but I take mixed runs (largely because I cannot bring myself to drive somewhere to run) and so I have to put in a pair of shock absorbers.

Order a half size down
Great trail shoes for the price high build quality. It runs big , I'm normally a 9.5 US in most brands. Struggled with my foot sliding forwards running down hill.

Accurately sizes
I followed the advice of another reviewer and ordered half a size smaller. Mistake. They are accurately sized in my opinion, certainly compared to my last Asics trail shoes. Suggest you order your usual size.

Good for trail but definitely not for tarmac
These shoes are well made and durable with a textile upper that is well designed and supportive. Midsole cushioning is ok but super firm. Provides real stability when running in rough terrain but is far too firm for tarmac and will risk knee and ankle strain.Grip on the outer sole is good on grass and mud but can be slippery on some pavements!
