Excellent supplement
This Astaxanthin Hawaiian grown and has the highest dose I ever took. My previous Astaxanthin was 4 or 6 mg. The softgels are pretty small and easy to swallow. I take it mostly for my skin and eyes.

Excellent
Very easy to digest and odorless going down (only one small pill as the dosage). This has been my first time trying astaxanthin and I may very well incorporate it into my long term daily regimen. When not taking a daily dose, I've noticed that dry eye sets in, particularly in the morning. Additionally, astaxanthin has been studied for several other benefits including immune support, protection from UV skin damage, healthy heart function, and support for cognitive health.

Works for muscle strength. Each softgel is a 12 mg dose. Caused itch.
Astaxanthin is supposed to help muscles, eyes and skin, per a paid radio program that I listened to a couple of times. This product does work for muscle strength. I sit at the computer a lot and before taking this, my left leg would collapse when I take a step up. I used to do leg strengthening exercises to counteract the weakness. Now, I don't do any exercises but my leg doesn't collapse.I haven't noticed any eye or skin improvement, but I have only been taking this for about 2 months and at a lower dose. (I take 1 gel every 3 days. I'll explain why later.) Per the radio program, your skin will show improvement after about 6 weeks at I believe the 12 mg dose. So since I am only taking 1/3, it should take another month. I don't know what it does for your eyes and I have bad vision, but haven't noticed any changes. With regard to the dose, there is no such thing as 1 size fits all. I had another bottle of asta, but of a different brand. That brand came in 4 mg doses, so I only took 1 of those a day. Hence I take one of these every 3 days. The reason I take the lowest dose is that, in addition to nothing being 1 size-fits-all, you will have no idea how this product will affect you. Also, if the lowest dose works, why take a higher dose. Be aware that if you do stop taking this, you will get muscle WEAKNESS, so you would have to start exercising. : )In terms of how it might affect you, I noticed that my tongue felt weird after taking 3 or so of these (every 3 days), like if you eat Szechuan pepper (AKA, numbing spice). I stopped taking this and it went away. I restarted and it didn't come back, so I am not sure if it is from this product or not. I did not have the same experience with the different brand that I took before this, but just a heads up. One other thing that I noticed is that my finger started to itch like crazy. When I stopped taking this, it went away. I think it might be an issue with astaxanthin, as opposed to this particular brand, because when I was taking a different brand, 3 of my fingers were itchy, although not as bad as when I was taking this product. When I switched to this product, 2 of my fingers stopped itching, but the last one got more itchy. I am not going to restart taking this product because too many things are happening, and another reviewer said she had an allergic reaction as well.1-star ding for coming in 12 mg doses instead of a smaller dose.1-star ding for itch and effect on tongue.

High dose Astaxanthin
Note: I'm not a doctor or dietician. Please consult your doctor with any questions.I've been taking Astaxanthin for many years now and this has to be the largest dose in one softgel that I have encountered. I take it for it's effects on the eyes, skin, and on its touted ability to lower DHT for healthy prostate support. The softgel is small and very easy to swallow. If you have never taken Astaxanthin you may want to start slowly or with a lower dose (especially if you are male and taking it for its touted effects on DHT).I love the quality and value of this Astaxanthin supplement and will reorder once I get close to running out.

Not seeing positive effects
The promised range of benefits is, frankly, very wide - from heart to the skin and then up to the eyes. It's hard to track improvements to the heart health, so can't speak of these, but I see no visible changes neither to the skin, nor to the eye sight. On the contrary, I've got some allergic reaction affecting my eyes after using this product. Your mileage may vary, but I'm not certain this product is worth the money. The one good thing I can say about it is it's made in the USA, this gives some assurance about the quality of ingredients.

Good astaxanthin supplement with a higher dose than many others.
Astacanthin is a good antioxidant typically found in salmon and algae (and the algae is usually where the salmon get it and what gives them their distinctive color). Sometimes omega 3 supplements contain astaxanthin, but not always, so I like to take a separate supplement to add it to my diet. Most astaxanthin supplements come as a little gel capsule (and I mean little), but this one is a little larger as it contains twice as much as I’m used to seeing in a similar supplement (most are 6mg and this is 12mg, and WebMd indicates 4-18mg daily is common). The gell caps (softgels) are a dark color, very easy to swallow, and have little to no odor or taste. They come in a white plastic bottle with a screw on plastic cap that should protect them from light and keep them fresh. The bottle is relatively small and the capsules fill up the bottle (I don’t understand why so many companies give a large bottle for a supplement and only fill it ¼ – ½ way; it’s a waste of space). There are 60 capsules in a bottle and the serving size is one capsule, so that gives a 60 day supply. The supplement is made in the USA (grown in Hawaii) in a GMP certified facility and looks to be third party tested by CVS.This seems to be a good astaxanthin supplement and I didn’t have any side affects from taking it. I like that it has a higher dose per serving compared to many of the others that I have tried. They may be a little more expensive than others, but you get more in each serving and I don’t expect anything from Hawaii to be cheap. That said, the price still isn’t too bad at ~$0.50 per serving. I also respect the fact that the size of the bottle is perfectly appropriate for the amount of product contained within, leaving little to no waste in container space/materials.
