The Final Diagnosis.
Read this book years ago and it’s still an excellent read today, gives a really detailed review of hospital department proceedures within a novel, well worth reading.

Hailey's first book - I felt that he had not quite got into his stride
I have always enjoyed Arthur Hailey's books, and they stand up to repeated reading. This was his first, published in 1959. As such, some of the descriptions and attitudes are somewhat dated; for example, the way in which a hospital consultant is portrayed as smoking a cigarette while he talks to his patients across his desk, or the pathologist puffing on a cigar while he carries out an examination. Some of the writing is a little cliched: "She stared into his deep, grey eyes... 'It's as if I've been waiting all my life for this moment,' she murmured..."The multiple plots are not as gripping as in Hailey's later books, but clearly, he has researched the medical world in his usual thorough way, and that makes much of it quite compulsive reading, though some of it, inevitably, is not for the squeamish.Having said that though, I enjoyed it and would recommend it to any of A.H.'s fans, albeit not quite as enthusiastically as I would recommend his later works.

Terrific book, but now rather dated
As always with Arthur Hailey, it's a riveting read, but as it was written in 1959, allowances have to be made for how different times are now. Stretches incredulity a bit far now and again, but if you can suspend disbelief, it's compelling.

Not as good as his others
I love other Arthur Hailey, but this one had little real story.
