The AK-47 of watches
A superb watch for a very modest price. The Amphibia offers brand heritage, a fully automatic in-house movement, a 200m depth rating, unique design and styling, as well as a vast range of interesting dial choices (The classic 'scuba dude' in cyan / teal is my preferred choice!).History:In 1967, Mikhail Novikov and Vera Belov, designers at the Chistopol watch factory, had a challenging task - essentially to design and produce a dive watch able to withstand depths of up to 200m as well as the associated changes of pressure and temperature. The design team at Vostok decided on the name 'Amphibia' as it evoked the idea of being equally at home underwater and also on dry land. Coming up with the name was the easy part, while producing a watch capable of meeting the requirements of the Soviet defense department was a little more challenging. At the time, the Swiss watch industry was capable of producing watches with such features. However, according to Novikov, many of the Swiss designs could not be replicated due to limitations in Soviet technology and equipment, which failed to provide the necessary accuracy. Copying the techniques of the Swiss were not an option, and thus Novikov and Belov had to approach the problem through a different approach. The conventional way to build a watch capable of withstanding pressure at great depth is to make the case, crown, and crystal able to have a static resistance - for example a Rolex Submariner in the bath is exactly the same (in terms of forces and pressures) as a Rolex submariner 50m or 100m underwater. In contrast, the design of the Amphibia is different as the water resistance of the watch actually improves as the pressure around it increases.Central to this elegant design solution is the Amphibia's caseback. Instead of a more traditional screw down caseback, the Amphibia uses a bayonet style caseback with a threaded locking ring. This system alone does not provide adequate resistance, so the Amphibia also has a very large gasket made from sintered rubber (borrowed from Soviet space technology). As a result, at greater pressures the case back is actually pushed into the rubber gasket, thus making the seal tighter and more effective as depth increases. In addition, the acrylic crystal operates in a similar fashion, flexing at high pressures to improve the seal and increase water resistance.Tips:> Check different versions for various case sizes and lug widths. My choice is this 420 case, which measures 39mm in diameter and has a lug width of 18mm. Other cases are 41 or 43mm in diameter, with lug widths of 18 or 22mm.> The pictures on Amazon rarely do these watches justice. Try to see one in person.> They keep very good time for an automatic, and if you are brave enough they can be regulated by adjusting the lever on the back of the movement.> They are easy to work on and offer a near endless amount of modification options (dials, bezels, hands, markers, straps, crowns, etc). Plenty of guidance online for changing parts. Once you start - it is tricky to stop.> Perhaps most importantly - the strap is just not very good (costs need to be cut somewhere I guess). Order another strap such as a Nato, shark mesh, or rubber, and change it straight away. Accept and know this issue beforehand, and you will avoid being disappointed.

Great watch
Cracking watch for the money. It wears well , takes the knocks and keeps time. There is a wealth of fascinating history associated with the ScubaDude watch and for the money should find a place in most collections.

A Lot of Watch for Not a Lot of Money
A great tough little watch which has lasted me such a long time, without needing any repairs. I say this as someone who wore it daily and worked in a manual environment, accidentally banging / knocking / dropping it often.

Great Watch!
The watch arrived earlier than expected, was well packaged, some reviews say the strap the watch comes with is rubbish but i think it’s ok.As for timekeeping, mines gains 15 seconds a day which I think is more than ok for a relatively inexpensive automatic watch.Had a few “ that’s a nice watch your wearing comments “ overall great watch , recommend Vostok Amphibia and the seller , happy customer!
