Once connected, can you pull out one and it still connects or you need both out of case? I use one at a time.

tap on right to increase and left to decrease

How does earbuds volume control work?

Yes, it does. It takes a little bit of getting used to because tapping too hard or too light will do nothing. But it's one of my favorite features.
