Great introduction to living in Portugal!
Really enjoyed this book. An easy read. I like the way the information is scaffolded. Each chapter builds on from the previous one, providing a comprehensive understanding of the culture and lifestyle of the Portuguese.

Some useful information
We enjoyed reading about the different places and saved a few pages for when we are ready to move there. Repetitive in parts and aimed at American/younger market (we live in the UK and are 43 and 51 at time of writing) but still found some useful information.

A one-stop shop to get you started on living and working in Portugal
There are many reason Portugal is popular as a destination for both living and working: good climate, good food, relatively cheap, safe and friendly. It can however be difficult and frustrating to work your way through the bureaucracy and laid back lifestyle to make living there as a digital nomad or temporary resident. This book sets out to make that a lot simpler, and it does succeed fairly well.First, there is a lot to know, many types of visas (D7, D6, digital nomad), each of which requires a lot of forms and proofs: documents translated into Portuguese and signed ('apostiled') as genuine. The book covers all the options and is up to date with recent changes to the "Golden Visa" that are important to know if you are considering the main cities. And where to live? There are brief overview with pros & cons of may of the possible locations, including the islands of Madeira and Azores. The digital nomad lifestyle (work anywhere there's wi-fi) is well covered, including the important facts about where to find the best coffee, the food and prices. You can spend weeks and hours tracking down all the rules & regulations, understanding the customs and filling in your checklist of things you'd need to make the nomad lifestyle work - good news is that Alphonsine has pretty much done that for you: get all the documents together, sort the visa, cover the insurance, get medical, pick a location, find a community, learn some language, know who to ask, know where to go, find some good food, avoid the traps and finally relax, get some sun, find a nice coffee shop, flip open your laptop, order a picadinho and get some work done. (Also, don't get thrown out of the country).I'd recommend the book as a fast-track to understanding how to quickly make the move to Portugal, and jump through all the hoops, including how to work in the country as a temporary or soon-to-be-permanent resident. At 211 pages it won't give you everything but it will stop you making many mistakes and it will quickly make you informed enough to navigate the process and help you whether you are already in country or planning a move.Cons: I would have liked more external links (however many useful links like SEF are in Portuguese so some translation is required.)

Covers a wide range of topics related to Portugal
I recently read "Starting a New Life in Portugal" by Alphonsine Pelletier. This book covers a wide range of topics related to Portugal, and I found it to be incredibly informative and entertaining. The book covers everything from etiquette rules and local customs to funny quotes about Portugal, and it even delves into more complex topics like moving to Portugal and the different types of visas available. One thing I really appreciated about the book is its focus on language. It provides common expressions and words in Portuguese, as well as common slang words and even instructions on how to curse in Portuguese. This is especially helpful for someone like me who is planning a trip to Portugal and wants to be able to communicate effectively with the locals. The book also covers important topics like healthcare, taxes, and real estate, which are all essential for anyone considering moving or retiring in Portugal. It provides detailed information on the Portugal Golden Visa and the different ways to obtain citizenship in Portugal, as well as the process for applying for a work visa.Another aspect of the book that I enjoyed is its focus on the nomad life and digital nomads. It discusses the benefits of living a nomadic lifestyle and the different types of visas available for those who work remotely. It even provides information on popular universities in Portugal and the pros and cons of studying in the country.Overall, I found this book to be incredibly helpful and informative. It covers a wide range of topics and provides detailed information on each one. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is planning a trip to Portugal, considering moving or retiring in the country, or interested in the nomadic lifestyle.

Everything You Need To Know About Portugal!!
This book is essential if you're planning a move or even just to visit Portugal. I would also recommend it if you would like to learn about another country and culture. This book does an excellent job covering all aspects a person moving to Portugal should be aware of and consider from Visas to language and customs, work/retiring, taxes, transportation, real estate, I can go on and on its all here. For containing a lot of valuable information, the book is broken down into easy to read and follow chapters with digestible paragraphs. There is a chapter dedicated to the language (Portuguese) with common words and expressions to use. It has a section that outlines curse words in Portuguese, I think it is very important topic to be aware of when traveling to a country where your fluency is a little shaky, and potentially save you some embarrassment, my dad encountered this problem on his honeymoon and was lucky enough to be corrected by someone nice (my mom loves retelling this story, my dad not so much).Very informative book! It will be your one stop shop for all things Portugal, also a fun read!

Steeped in colorful history
Great little book to decide which towns might fit your interest. Gives a brief but poignant vignettes of historical interest that gives Portugal broad spectrum of color to choose to fit everyone’s interest. Best of all it is very specific in the cost of both touring and a more permanent place to settle more permanently. It also provides some information on the laws governing visas, of which there are many variations, depending on one’s interests.
