An intertwining delightful read
The blend of cultures, countries, characters and concepts intertwine in a delightful manner while adding a pinch of meandering off on a tangent. With the art world as a backdrop is the icing on a most digestible lingonberry cake.

Great winter read!
This was our book club's January book. It took about 50 pages for me to get into it... characters and settings were multiple. Laughed out loud many times. Dark humor... kind of like Fargo.

what a rollicking good read!
Jonasson as good as he gets! Hilarious tale and written so seemingly spontaneously it feels like you are listening to the characters yourself. Don’t hesitate for a second to read!

Fun book
Came relatively quickly and in good condition. I was a bit nervous about the outline but it's hysterical. I think my favorite by the author, who I'll read as long as he keeps writing. I have a couple friends that are reading the books and liking them nearly as much.

Very funny comedy set in Sweden
I thought this book was uproariously funny and enjoyed its laugh-out-loud moments. However, it was longer than it needed to be. An added bonus was learning about some leading artists that were unknown to me. The comedy connects some diverse characters in a surprising way. The story is set mainly in Sweden. The despicable, vile Victor owns an art gallery that should have belonged to his mild, younger wife, Jenny. He ignored her except when tricking her out of her inheritance and then promptly divorced her. Like Hitler, Victor abhorred modern art from the time of the Impressionists and only concentrated on realistic paintings in his gallery. His ultra-conservative right-wing views on art, race, politics, etc., align with those of Hitler. He left his only son, Kevin, in the wilds of Africa to be eaten by lions. Later, Jenny and Kevin meet by chance in Stockholm. Their mutual hatred of Victor leads to a romance and a goal of revenge. There is Hugo, who had a successful career in advertising. He left this position to establish a less competent Revenge business. Joining them is a Maasai medicine man who comes to Sweden knowing nothing about the outside world or of modern conveniences banned in his settlement. He arrives in Stockholm in the winter clad in his traditional garb and carrying tribal weapons. Misunderstandings led him into all sorts of trouble and amusing situations. Paintings by the deceased artist, Irma Stern, play a significant role in this revenge plot. I did not expect that I would not only be entertained but that this book would inform me. I had not known that Irma Stern was an actual painter of now valuable works of art. Thanks to Google, I was able to view her paintings on the internet. I was also introduced to artists whose work was destroyed mainly by Hitler's contempt towards Impressionism but was able to view a few paintings that remained. Getting even with Victor includes a goat, bags of flour, and sex toys left in his home, plus the appearance that he is forging Stern's paintings. This revenge ruins Victor's reputation, but he can live with that humiliation as he has a scheme to add to his fortune through more trickery. A hilarious, overly long, madcap comedy with unlikely connections and subplots. Thanks to the internet, I could view and learn about some works of art previously unknown to me.

Clever
Very clever plot with twists and turns that make you smile. I also enjoyed the unusual group that forms through the story-telling and the fate of unintended consequences. An enjoyable read

Great book. Hilarious
As I’ve read all The author’s similar books the story was just as hilarious as expected and I recommend everyone reads his work. I’ve only dropped a star for the quality of the physical book as the pages fell out as the book was being read. It must have been a publishers ‘seconds’ as pages were clearly not attached to the spine fully

a great read
So nice to read a book that has such a neat, happy ending with a bit of nail biting on the way even though you know Jonas will sort it all out by the end. Sweet and clever, perfect literary escapism.

An absolute gem...yet again.
I love Jonasson's work, because I love quirky and ridiculous, and this has a fine dollop of both in equal measure. His writing is beautiful and it is laugh out loud funny, while also having some really clever plot twists.Newcomer's to this author need to have the capacity simply to go with it. If you are able to do this, you will simply adore his work. I have read all but one of his books (that has just been remedied, I have just ordered the one I haven't read). Our world has been a dark and serious place for a while now. The ability to spend an afternoon in my shed losing myself in another much nicer world has been just what I needed. Total escapism at its best. Jonasson is now officially on my 'fantasy dinner party list' his creative mind is pure genius.
